Is it just me or...

Is it just me or are the halo rings on the 2014-15's brighter than the 2010-13's? I assume this has been discussed before, but I have never seen anything on it. Every time I see a newer 5th gen on the road the just seem to stand out more than mine do. If they are brighter like I assume, is there a way to make the halos on my 2010 brighter?

Thanks

You are correct, I could be wrong on the types of bulbs they are. But 10-13 use a CCFL bulb and the 14-15 use a LED bulb which is obviously much brighter.

The 10-13 uses a single LED source on the light tube. The 14-15 uses a ring of LED emitters, similar to aftermarket halos. I think JDP, Apex, or another company made a replacement LED board that output variable RGB or white. It was a tricky install if you didn't want to pull/split the housing. Not worth the effort if controller or LED goes bad. Hit or miss with non-OE LED replacements durability/reliability.

An older thread documented how to remove and replace the existing OE Halo LED light board. It's been awhile so it may be hard to find.

And the 14-15 seem to have slightly thicker rings too. More area to be lit. No?

Right, 10-13 have a light tube with a bulb or two, aimed up/down to travel through the pipe.

14-15 have multiple LEDs firing forward, which makes them brighter, the main factor is that they are aimed outward, instead of inward.
