Why can't my dealer input an order?

Trying to order up a Convertible. The small town dealer told me that they would be able to input the order on the 18th of Nov, but when I was there he could not bring it up on the computer. The sales manager said he wasn't on the first round allotment list so it would have to wait a week. Because that week would make it thursday, he said they were moving it up to Today.
Just got off the phone and still no luck.
What the %^#&%^ gives. Why can't they take my order?

This is so guy's like Scotty can get 100 on the first round because he sells so many. Small time dealers get screwed because they don't move enough product. That's just the way it goes.

LOL... 100? I wish!

He should be able to ENTER the order....he just can't release it for production until they get an allocation.

When I sold Chrysler products, we were always fighting for allotment... I would go across border to Michigan, and there would be rows and rows of scarce product, (scarce in Canada!! We were told at that time, that New York state, (for example) sells more cars per month, than ALL of Canada, per month..... Just go to a larger dealer......

I would additionally ask what his production guide number is. If it is (1), the allocation for this 1 could be available to order anytime between now and March of 2011 (End of 2011MY ordering) This is what happened to me. I had a backup plan and will have allocation order in approximately 3 weeks. Good luck.

"He should be able to ENTER the order....he just can't release it for production until they get an allocation."

So Scotty, if I my dealer has 1 allocation and he says its mine and he gives me a printout with preliminary order number, then he says he has to wait until GM hits the order... what does that mean?

That means that they didn't get their allocation scheduled for production yet. IF he got just one, two or three, those could come anytime from now through about May. THEN that order will get pulled / submitted for production.

A dealer COULD put 200 orders in the system, but the estimated guide number or allotment is what GM plans on building for them.

Not quite as extreme as your case but when I ordered my 2011 2LT, the dealer indicated they enter orders into a sort of database and GM picks off orders once a week which could vary by day. They told me usually GM does an upload of this dealers orders on COB Saturday. This is a high volume Chevrolet dealer too. Maybe GM "picks" off the orders >weekly at smaller dealers??
