I guess I messed the memo on this....Is the production car going to have a visible-carbon extractor instead of the flat black, or is this still speculation?

FWIW, I agree. Though I would be peasantly surprised with a full CF hood option, like the Z06 offers.

I guess my point was the entire thing including the vents would be one piece of carbon fiber. The clear coat would be extra cost, otherwise the part would be one in the same (only a cosmetic difference). Also just a guess.

GM has expertise with CF. There is no reason the ZR1 cannot have fenders, hood, roof and deck lid all made of exposed CF other than cost. The CF hood inserts done to production standard is a given.

I think the full carbon insert will be a vert only option. You can't stripe the vert, other than the trunk lid. That was my first thought when I saw it. Something special for the vert. But hopefully everyone has a chance to get it if they want.

I'm positive those aren't going to be an issue. I'm not entirely sure that warping had anything to do with the extractor insert itself, more than the plastic it looked like the vents were made of. I'm sure everything is going to be validated and that we're not going to be seeing much of that stuff when ZL1 is finally on the streets.

I'm really loving the idea of the exposed CF insert though. I would probably usually say that looked ricey, but I have to be a little bit of a hypocrite, lol. I'm not sure which way I'd go if it was an option. I like the idea of the CF-look, but really like the extra dimension the stripe adds, so I'd probaby opt' for a painted extractor.

I wonder if those vents are screwed in or snapped in... I would think they'd be screwed in so they'd be more secure at track speeds. If so, perhaps the extra torque distorted the mouting flange or something. OR... I'm just making crap up
Here is a shot of the underside of the ZL1 hood and it looks like the CF insert and vents are screwed or bolted to the hood.

However, if a person takes the time to keep wax on that clearcoat, I'm sure it would fare better in the sun. Then again - who knows?
GM uses a special clear on the ZR1 with an additive that's $60,000 per gallon.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/off-...-a-gallon.html

If GM makes this an option I expect it to be very expensive, but I would bite and I told Scott that last week. The roof of the ZR1 costs $2,200 to paint. I expect the hood insert would easily be $1,000.

^^ The underside of this, at least to me, looks entirely like plastic. I hope the 'fit and finish' of the production version better. I'm not even talking about the vents. If that vert video wasn't so bad we would have gotten a better shot of the CF one... Hopefully we will see it when it hits the LA auto show.

care of before final production starts. Because of these fears, I will most
likley opt for the carbon fiber exposed hood, with the hopes that the sealing agent will provide an extra amount of rigidness to the vents. Thus

Any feed back from the powers to be would be helpfull concerning
this issue would be most appreciated.
Yes, me and another member noticed this on the ZL1 at the Indiana Motor Speedway this year. Hopefully, they will correct this for production.

Unfortunately, the LA show will be after a lot of us have placed our orders for ZL1.
