Seems like the new Star Trek is a darker series. Gene Roddenberry wanted Star Trek to be about hope and a bright future.

That said, I still liked the last one, even though it does go against Star Trek lore. Not all of the crew were in the academy at the same time. Chekov was supposed to be about 10 years younger than Kirk, and Spock wass supposed to be something like 20 years older.

I love it. And to your point, yes it was that, but Gene wanted Trek to not be about space travel and such exactly but about Human relationships and how they develope.

JJ Abrams is doing a great job in showing that especially with Kirk and Sock.

well the deal there was to create a whole new time line so new movies could be made.

altering the existing time line, screwing with the whole Star Trek Universe as we knew it, and now a whole new franchise is born..

personally I expect the same thing to happen now that Disney bought the Star Wars franchise as well..

there is nothing new in Hollywood, just new faces hashing and redoing old ideas..

JJ Abrams said the old timeline still exists. His timeline scewed off from the original.

Matter of fact, the major idea being thrown around CBS for a new TV show is a reboot of The Next Generation but it would take place in the JJ Abrams timeline making it possible to do whatever they wanted.

I really hate how they killed kirk. I read somewhere that the alternate ending had the Enterprise crash scene much later in the movie and that Kirk was at the Bridge and he "went down" with the Enterprise.

now that would have been epic and just plain right.
