Are you trying to remove "just" the wiper? So far it sounds like your trying to remove the entire arm. There is a little tab on the wiper, where the arm and wiper meet. Lift it up and the wiper should pivot and slide off the arm.

Just rock it back and forth and it will come off of the splines.
