So a quick call to AAA, ok not a call requested service using the iPhone app, and this arrives!

And off to Street Customs and Kyle she goes. So after 2 trips to my house and no telling how many hours of trouble shooting, the problem is found very quickly broken #8 valve spring.

Here are the details of the failure:

I got the car in the shop and removed the valve covers like at your place when you were there, but then removed the rocker arms on the pass side head also and that is when I was able to see the coil wrapped around itself on the #8 exhaust valve. I removed the spring (both pieces) and put a stock valve spring in there for now just to hold the valve up. Everything else looks good, the spring was actually still doing its job (for the most part), just didn't seat the valve as well which caused our low compression on that cylinder.

We decided to go with some springs from Texas Speed and we use the PRC springs on all of the motors I spec out for the RCR Camaros, so I know they won't have an issue. We spec'ed the Comp springs on your car because they are what we have used in the past with the same cam setup without issue. The new springs are a double spring (safety/helper spring on inside) rated for .650" lift so they will be more than sufficient.

The culprit:

New Shiny

So now the car is back together, new springs along with Intake manifold, Booster hose, Fuel injectors, Fuel rail, Map sensor, Intake gaskets, and header gaskets (brand new). The car should be home on Saturday morning!

I can't say enough about Kyle, NC-V, and everyone at Street Customs for all of the help and getting me back up and running!

One more day!

The car was delivered back Saturday morning and all I can say is WOW. I took it for a quick spin and it drove SO much better than even before! Drove to work on Monday and felt like a totally different car, easy to drive even at low RPMs, didn't have to romp on it in 1st etc. I thought it was just in my head so I let my wife drive it to work yesterday and she asked what else they did to the car because it was so much easier to drive. OK so I guess it wasn't just in my head.

My guess is that things may have been going south for a while before the spring finally gave up.

Once again I can’t think Kyle and everyone at Street Customs enough for getting me back up and running! If you are in the NC and looking to have some work done I cannot recommend these guys enough!

Now what to mod next?
