Rear gears

Has anyone changed their gear ratio on an LFX?
I read that you can put the 3.91 (1LE) gears and get about a 20% torque increase (55ft/lb). I'm not all that familiar with this topic but 20% increase sounds pretty sweet. Anyone done it or have more info?
I know you'll need a tune (from what I've read)

If you have a manual transmission, you can swap the 3.91 ring & pinion into your car... if you have an automatic trans, you have to do a complete rear end swap (You'll need the 8.6" center section, axles, wheel hubs, and drive line.)...

If you have an auto the lowest gear you can get without swapping EVERYTHING is a 3.55 made by Richmond, which would be like an appx. 9% torque increase.

What Exactly do I need to be able to do 3.55?

Since you have an LT trim car, you don't need to do anything special. Just buy the gears (~500-600 new) and if you're lucky you can get away with a half install kit (~60), or if you end up needing a full install kit (~250)... Take it all somewhere and have it installed.

The 2LS has 2.92 gears and a different ring gear carrier than the 1LT/2LT automatic which has 3.27 gears, the 1LT/2LT automatic can accept the 3.55 gears only, the 2LS can not without the 1LT/2LT ring gear carrier. The 1LS, and 1LT/LT manual transmission cars have the same rear end as the SS, which makes for a wider selection of gear ratios.

oh yes i knew the manual is the same as the SS. but he didn't say he has a auto or did i miss that? i thought i didnt know something because I've been toying with this idea for a while. i just don't know which gear ratio to go with. i don't want my engine to rev all crazy instantly. I don't know any v6 to ask who has a 3.91. id love to know cause as you know gm makes a very affordable. half the price of aftermarket. always better to save money. but I dont know if it would be worth it. do you know what its like?

2LS and 1LT have different gears. lT had 3.27 and 2LS has 2.91 or something. Why GM did that I have no clue, but there is a big thread on here about it

Oh that stinks. I hate how they get you like that. They did something similar to me. Was looking into an SS but had no new ones and would had to order. And j needed a car and couldn't wait. I guess I'm happy. I wouldn't want to drive an SS everyday. I plan on getting a v8 camaro or corvette soon. But weekend car. Something is like to have for a long time.

But yes the gear thing is odd. Keeping the same on manuals and not autos. Must be a money thing for them to keep costs down on their end.
