Would you rather.....
This question is for ZL1 owners, especially owners who have also owned(or still own) a 67,68,69 camaro.Since you now own and have driven your new ZL1 for a little while, would you rather have your new ZL1 or one of these 3 classic 1st gens(doesnt have to be an original ZL1). Now I dont mean as a show car or a trailer queen but as a driver to enjoy and use.Do you prefer the new technology or the classic original. And you cant say "both". Just a question.Thanks.

I would take my current one any day of the week. I have had a 1st, 2nd, 4th and on my 3rd 5th Gen and the ZL1 beats them all hands down. Thinking back, even though the 1st Gen was fun, it really was built like crap compared to what we have now.

2012 ZL1 You get the best of everthing , looks, performance, power, ride, and you don't have to work on constantly. I'm still a fan of the old.

I originally wanted a 67,68,or 69. And completely redo the car head to toe. My wife was actually excited about that. I started getting figures of doing everything right. Upgrades on everything, drivetrain, brakes suspension etc. then I came to the conclusion that it would cost just as much as the ZL1 and I, being the mechanic that did it would be the warranty not GM. Definitely no regrets on my decision though!

I own a 1969 Z/28 and a 2013 ZL1 Convertible. The Z/28 definitely holds a hallowed place in performance car history. The 1969 Z/28 evokes memories of a time and place for me that will likely never be replaced, and there is no substitute for sound of that solid lifter Duntov 30-30 cam, but we can never go back.
I still love the styling of the 1969 Z/28, but in terms of driving pleasure and performance the new ZL1 wins easily. The 1969 Z/28 performed and handled well for a car of its day, but it simply can't compete with 40 plus years of technological performance, comfort, and convenience advancements, and that doesn't even include the difference in maintenance and tuning required. If you can only have one, I'd recommend the new ZL1.

I think if you have to pick one the ZL1 is the way to go.
It just drives so good. looks great. I think the ZL1 is the best looking camaro since 1969 hands down. The same way I though the 06 Z06 was the best looking corvette since 1969 hands down. the correct answer is really both though even though it is not an option. they both have there own character.

I have a completely restored (not original) '69 Camaro, 383 stroker, 4 link suspension, built 350 tranny, very nice ride IMO. If I had to give up one, the '69 would have to go. The ZL1 is SOOOO much fun, I track it a lot (which has totally become an addiction and strongly advise every ZL1 owner to do), it is my daily driver, and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy stepping into it every single day. Dont get me wrong, my '69 is a blast, but it is a completly different ride. As much as I love my '69 and will never get rid of her, if I HAD to make a decision, I would stick with my ZL1.

I have owned a 69 camaro for 23 years. I was sad to see it go when I purchased my 2012. I do not miss it. My 69 was fun to drive but my 2012 spices it up a notch. Definitely would choose the new over the old.

I know it would be a hard choice. I wonder what some of the guys who have transformed a 1st gen into a modernized(?) car would say.
