hand controls

My buddy just finished his complete restoration on his 1983 camaro z28. This car is his pride and joy. He recently had a bad 4 wheeler accident and is now paralyzed from the waste down. He wants to sell his camaro but I am trying to find a company that would do conversion to hand controls. I have seen this on vans and such but never on a sports car, does anyone have any information to help me out? any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks

Hand controls have certainly been done on non-vans before, and I don't see why there would be any difference doing them in a Camaro. I imagine ingress and egress would be difficult.

I just googled for camaro "hand controls"
http://www.google.com/search?q=camar...nd+controls%22

and the first result was this very forum :
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3330

So, you might want to PM WillInThe04Ranger or post to his thread...

Tell him not to sell there are plenty of places that will do this. I myself have the hand controls in my ranger and my 4th gen camaro. What you would need to do is call the DMV and ask them, they SHOULD know of a place or two.

What the place here in NC did with me was they had a woman come down and we test fitted a car for me. Just so happens the controls in the car where the ones I like, they have a wide selection of control handles, tell him to get the one that he wants.

Wat they'll do is they may or may not have to cut the bottom part of the dash for the mounts, it mounts to the pedals and firewall. I can call the company that did mine and see if they know of any place up there.

I'll take some pictures of them for you and where they are mounted to give him an idea, for the pedals you can see a video at www.youtube.com/willinthe04ranger

I'm at college right now so if none of this makes any sense, I'll repost later.

Will

Thanks for all the help, looks like it can be done. I bought an automatic transmission a few weeks ago and hopefully I can find the time to get the tranny swap done soon so i can get some hand controls. This camaro sat in my garage for 2 years in pieces and now that its done I am not gonna let my friend just sell his car and forget about it. thanks again for the help.

If the car is within 3 years of a new car YES they will. but the program they have is just like ford, new you get 1K BACK. Meaning you have to pay it out first then they send you it back. Now it cost more then 1K My camaro controls costed 1600 and some change.
