Speedometer Question

So I searched a bit and couldn't find anything about this...

Why is the speedometer on the left? Every other car I've driven has had the tach on the left and the speedometer on the right.

The older Camaros had the gauges set up that way, like the '69.

My older GM vehicles here, an '88 and a '99 have the speedometer on the left and the tach on the right. A lot of cars I've had over the years were set up that way.

Wow, I didn't even remember that my '67 Camaro had the speedo on the left! Mainly remembered the other two Camaros I've had ('97 and '00), the Tahoe I learned to drive in, my parents' cars (at least 10 of them over the years) and my '07 G35.

Thanks for the info. =)

I wonder if that will take time to get used to, since my current car has the speedo on the right, tach on the left. Hmm.

My Pontiacs are like this as well. I absolutely prefer this way too, and would hate it if it were otherwise!!! The way I drive, I always have my left hand on the wheel at about 11 O'clock, (when my right hand is on there it's usually at 3 O'clock). For all intents and purposes, the line of sight to my speedometer is blocked by my left hand, (which is okay since I never look at my speedometer anyway) but I can see my tachometer just fine (which I glance at all the time)!

Sorry. Not the best pic, but speedo is on the left and tach on the right in the '74.

what??

i'm pretty sure the tach on the new camaro is electronic, so it wouldn't be a cable issue
