Camaro vs.....tuned Duramax...?
I saw an interesting article in one of my friend's magazines (Diesel Performance, I believe) that compared the 2010 Camaro to some Chevy truck with the 6.6L Duramax in it. The only mod they had was a tune and they say they ran the 1/4 mile in 13.0 @ 103 mph with an estimated 4.4 0-60.
I thought it was pretty funny so I figured I'd share it with you guys. I'm trying to find it online but it was in the October issue of Diesel Performance magazine. |

That was in diesel power magazine.
I have a 2005 Chevy 3500 crew cab dually 4x4 that weights 8000 lbs with 34" tires. It runs 13.60s in the 1/4 @ 97 MPH. The same setup in a 2500 single wheel that weights 7200 lbs would be running high 12s. Here is a video of the guy that does my EFI live programming. Here is one that is a 6 speed manual the same year as mine: Last edited by BigRed; 09-22-2009 at 10:09 PM. |

660 ft lbs of torque is nothing to sneeze at. it makes the zr1 jealous.
that with the six speed allison tranny, its awesome. ive seen duallies spin their tires at 50.

Yeah, I can't race in 2wd at all. My duals will just smoke. There is one video on youtube someplace of a 3/4 smoking the front tires when he launched with too much boost built up.

Well I thought I would be the first with this one. I guess that is what I get for waiting. I can email better images of the story to those who want them, not really worth reading, this big truck is touted as the better vehicle. I love the truck but the comparison is just goofy.

All I can say is wow.
Does anyone think there will ever be a noteworthy and worth your money ECU upgrade for the camaro? That's what you mean by tuning most of the time, no? |

Duramax's are awesome. One of the quickest trucks I've ever been in.

If i thought there was a chance of Chevy putting the Duramax in a camaro i would have definitely waited. I would love to see what my camaro would run with my duramax in it. When you consider a 8000 lbs truck can run mid 13s at 97 MPH, think what it would do in a car that would weight about half as much. It would be crazy and would never hook up.

WhiteCrane asked about programming upgrades for the Camaro. You can see well over a 100hp increase by just changing the program on a diesel. Can't get that from a gas motor. |
