Myself personally the tone of the exhaust is most important. IMO just because it's loud, doesn't make it sound good. If the tone isn't right you'll just end up with loud sounding bad exhaust.

Rather than just chopping the exhaust apart and welding up pipes, the end result is worth just buying a decent cat back system ... Myself I have gone with FlowMaster on both my cars, for that old school growl without being too loud ...

do the muffler delete, sounds just as good as an exhaust and costs way less

To me the (LS3) MD+resonator with X-pipe combo sounds kind of exotic and refined, with moderate volume. It's okay....

454 with headers....that's the shit!

Bumping a slightly old thread found via Google searching, but if you have an L99 and you do a muffler delete and leave the resonators will you notice the AFM kick in like folks say you do when you remove visa versa?

Also are they about the same tone/loudness by removing either one?

There is a shop in town that told me you just remove the resonators versus a whole exhaust kit but if removing the mufflers gives you the same growl but you don't have to do a tune to turn off the AFM then that certainly sounds like a better option since I'm not really looking to do a tune.

Also, looking in general to add some deeper growl to the car versus stock but not have it loud enough to piss off the neighbors every time I leave the house, haha.

Thanks in advance!

Will you get that drone sound everyone is talking about if you take the rear mufflers off?

Gonna get my resonator's removed this weekend hopefully. I have the track pack GMPP exhaust, it's definitly louder than stock *a mouse far is louder than stock...*, so i'll make a vid after I take out the resonator's, so you can get an idea of what it sounds like. Like someone mentioned above though, no substitute for a real cat-back exhaust This is just to get me through for a few more weeks till she goes in the garage for the winter, at which time i'll have a mountain of goodies to slap on it

Who makes a pipe or x pipe to go from the stock cats back to the axle back exhaust?

I want to get rid of all the resonator crap but keep my stock headers and cats for now .... is it easier to just have a muffler shop cut that crap out and replace with straight pipe or do you need some kind of x pipe in there? I already have the GM axle back exhaust and a Jannetty tune.

And would it be stupid to throw some straight small glass packs in the sraight pipes to keep the sound down?

Also does anyone know what the size of the stock exhaust is on the L99 where you cut out the resonators... 2.25" or 2.5"

Deleting the resonator on my L99 was the best 50 bucks I have ever spent. Now you can hear the SLP II's. I am thinking about getting rid of them too. I did it on my LS3 and it sounded great.

Could you address some of my other concerns about the AFM kicking in being more noticable with the resonator off the L99 - would a muffler delete be better instead? Same result for volume/tone?

How about popping, etc when you removed your resonators?

Like I said, I want the growl to be V8 appropriate instead of muffled like I've heard it is stock but I don't want to piss off my neighbors every time I give it a little gas going down the road.

you can get a handle held tuner to tune off the AFM.. and doing a muffler delete is not going to be as loud as you think.... if i was you i would remove the mufflers and wait to see if you would like the resonator removed

What is the purpose of the H Pipe configuration in front of the resonators on the LS3?

Will this work? And who can do it in Missouri?

Not sure if our local muffler shop can do it? And does anyone know what the diameter of the stock exhaust is?

And sorry .... not to good at Photoshop, but you get the idea.

In reference to my photo above where does the x-pipe need to go or does it matter?
