HOOD SLATS?
Hello all;
Ever since the 5th Gen. came to the New York Auto Show I have been biting my tongue and saving up for the Z/28. Now that it's almost here I see and hear about those deplorable ( I hope it's not true)HOOD SLATS. I didn't like them on the Viper or Caddy and for sure not on a Z/28. Maybe because I saw so many rendetions like the SLP and Bumble Bee. They look GREAT!!! I would rather have the same hood as the SS than the Slats. What do you Guys & Gals Think? |

Just have to see what happens as far as the hood. Hopefully will know soon, thier really not saying much and you can't just go by the spy photo's. Thiers competition out thier and they may have just slapped a caddie hood on thier for a deception. We all just need to be patient and wait, Oh its friday night where's my drink. Better wait untill I get home from work first .

When I first laid eyes on this rendering I instantly loved everything but the hood design. It was very different looking and I didn't like it. However, over time I've actually grown to like this look and prefer it to the T2 style, large intake scoop. My favorite design is the clean look of the Jay Leno heat extractor hood, but this style is growing on me rapidly.
I believe these "hood slats", similar to the CTS-V race car design as you mentioned, are going to be a close representation to what the production car's hood will look like. And Z4me, you're right the final production car may be totally different than the spy photos suggest. Time will tell, and hopefully it'll be telling soon. |

Not a big fan of the hood slats either. I say do the engine window or the hood scoop, and by god make those brake vents functional.

If you're going to stack a supercharger on it from the factory, you might as well incorporate a functional shaker intake on the hood. The slats are not very aesthetic, and they serve no useful purpose.

Yeah thats my thinking also, but we have to just wait and see the final outcome on the hood design. Hopefully thier have a design thats both eye appealing and functional for this new car. If not i'll yank the hood and save it and go with a new one that I prefer instead I'm also hoping that this new bad boy will have some unique paint colors that will only be available on this new car edition. Probably won't happen but will see. |

They serve more of a functional purpose than a shaker intake hood that you describe would. They extract heat and air pressure from the engine bay, increasing downforce at speed in the process.

I'm scratching my head at why everyone is calling them slats.
Is it even a word. |

I don't think they're fitting for a z28's heritage but that's me. Anything can be made to work but I am fearful that things can get busy in the looks department if things aren't integrated right.
