The One and Only Car that Stands Between Me and a Future Z28....

so here's the deal. i love my camaro V6 dearly, yet i do have bigger plans in the future.....and this whole Z28 situation really has my eye. I always considered the Viper to be the end-all be-all. so i have a couple questions for you guys (basically opinion questions but up for discussion nonetheless)

1) will the Z28 be able to reasonably keep up with the Viper SRT10? (0-60 under 4 seconds, 560lb of torque, 600HP)
2) The Viper is much more expensive new (approaching 100k). do you think the Z28 at its price is the better buy, or is the Viper worth it for the performance (and rarity)?

discuss

The Z/28 may struggle to keep up with the SRT10, it has a fairly significant weight problem to overcome.

The Z/28 is the better buy when it comes to every day driving/using, but the Viper is far more valuable and rare.

I was wondering this as well... Chrysler is still struggling to survive as far as I can tell and building the Viper just isn't part of a viable survival plan.:(

The Viper has ended production for this generation.

It will be skipping the 2011 MY and will likely return for the 2012 MY

i figured the Z28 would be way too big and heavy to keep up. i should probably revisit the topic when it comes out though....

My brother has a viper...to expensive to enjoy driveing it (constantly babysitting the thing) , OOOOOBER expensive maintenance, and yup its got more balls BUT where can you really genuinely use them around town?? Brothers seriously getting ready to sell and buy a Camaro. Does the same donuts as a viper, power slides same as a viper, gets girls....same as a viper, except they are from trailer parks (Just a joke dont kill me). Get a Z-28 and use the extra to take it on a nice long drive!
JMHO.

yea i would choose the Z28. the viper is definetly not a DD. i work for dodge and whenever they come in they end up spending at least $100 even if its just an oil change. vipers are really nice but you need to have lots of money to enjoy one.

you don't cross shop a Viper and a Z28.... does not make sense if you got the kinda cash to be able to afford a viper you wouldn't be asking...

you may cross shop a Z06 or ZR1 and a Viper.... or a Ford GT they are all in the same league... a z28 does not fit the bill.

I beat a viper almost 3/4 the way down the 1/4 mile track I a 3 ton truck.
When I lunched on him and pulled by two lenths you could se the panic in his eyes. He started misshifting nut he did finally catch up to me.

I was driving a 2004 siearra Denali quadrasteer AWD
WITH 438 ci twin turbo'd that had 805 ft lbs torque on a baby break in tune.

You're driving a 1LT and debating the tenths of seconds in performance and the big dollar gap between the Viper and the Z?

I like your goals! But to be more realistic, you could consider a used 2011 SS once they start hitting the market.

I sure love the snake, but others have mentioned the maintenance. You could also go after a used Viper too. They don't always have the creature comforts of the Camaro, note.
