I have a 2011 2SS so I came across Auto Traders site and I just thought I would see what the trade in value is and what do I see about $26000.00 and some change, thats it ?

7000, I was sad to see this since the car was like $39000.

And, that's not including options like heated seats, HID headlights, etc.

What any trade-in value is and what a dealer might give you is another story.

They "have to make a living"??? Yeah, by offering below rated trade-in value on your trade and charging above MSRP on your purchase.

And post in here that they get a bad rap..........

trade in and retail are two different things, so what you paid for it and what it's actually worth end up quite distant sometimes.

also, Auto Trader or KBB are just "guesses" at value. at least around here, all dealers use NADA black book or actual local auction figures to come up with trade in value.

They might "use" NADA only to know how far under it to go.

I bet that $26k is pretty close to what a CarMax would offer for your car. I did see a 2012 1SS there for under $30k this week, and CarMax prices are right at 10% over "normal" retail.

I got my jeep for 2% below invoice and they gave me $28,000 for my 2010 2SS RS,sunroof with 5,000 miles last month. The chevy dealership they wholesaled it to is now asking 33,500.

The dealership I work at ONLY OFFERS NADA value. Period. And if you come in with Edmunds or Blue Book values, we will absolutely let you walk before paying anything close to the value.

Kelley value on my 03 Cobra was $21k. Dealership offered $14k and only bc I work here.

Hell, my 2012 1LT/RS stickered for $30k...with 200 miles on it the value had already cratered to $24k. It's the second fastest depreciating car I've owned behind a 2011 Chevy Impala. Bought that one for $25k, sold it one month later for $13k. Resale is a major reason i have avoided Chevy in the past. I saw all these articles about how the Camaro holds good value. Well, as far as I'm concerned, I would have to disagree so far.

This is also why I call on these SS traders that claim they stayed at the same payment more or less after trading in their barely used V6. Either theres a bunch of 84 month loans going on, some SERIOUS downpayments, or theres alot of poker-faced

I vote for the latter.

This thread is exactly why you buy the car you are going to keep a very long time.
A car is a depreciating asset for about 30 years, then it might go up in value if the stars align right and you get lucky with a classic instead of a turd..
You WILL lose your shorts in a trade, and if you buy it with minimal down payment and an extended loan you WILL be upside down for the majority of the loan.
The next guy doesn't care what you paid, only that there are plenty of other cars out there for him to choose from.

Hmpf, I'm happy with my trade in value according to NADA. $29,200 is pretty damn good for a car that's 3 years old. http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2010/...dard-Equipment

You lost 10% just driving a new car off the lot.
$26,000 for a trade sounds about right. Dealer wants to make $3,000 ($29,000) selling your car to someone else.
Late model cars are not investments.
