BMW 535i
How would I fair lined up against one of these? I know the 335i would take me to task but what about the heavier 5 series?
Oh and I have the V6 with the mods listed below.

not sure about a stock 535, but with the tt, it's not hard to bump it up some with some simple boltons and tune

With fast shifts from it's auto 8spd gearbox, I think you'd be hard pressed to keep up. That is the heaviest of the 3.0 turbo cars, and the 135/335s would eat you alive pretty well, but I'd imagine that 535 can move pretty well until you get to the real high numbers. They are heavier than you, but that torque curve is pretty good and that gearbox will make more out of the power than your 6spd (with quicker shifts).
I've driven 535s and I wasn't that impressed at the time. My wrx had a much better power to weight ratio, with about the same HP and much lighter+awd, so my wrx felt like a rocket compared to the 535, especially at low speeds where I could just punch turbo without wheelspin (place I drove a 535 from accused me of "spinning out" while making a u-turn into the opposite direction traffic, I knew I needed to accelerate to get up to speed, but I surely didn't spin the wheels and I wasn't all that impressed by it's acceleration, I think they were just hurt to see me swing it around rather rapidly). Although I wasn't very impressed, they've made some big strides with those transmissions and turned them into cars that will eat stuff with more horsepower due to the gear ranges and quick shifts. |

good info....would rather have 1 big turbo on a turbo car than 2 smaller ones anyways. seems it would have decent potential if you could afford the mods

I raced one.... They aren't as quick as you would think, granted they dyno 280 whp and 300 lb ft, they weigh 4000 lbs+, had several cars by 100(the end of the 1/4 mile). It kept up with me better then an LLT V6 Camaro recently did though.... This was at Thunder Valley Raceway in Noble, Oklahoma of course. He ran 13.9 @ 99.8 to my 13.6 @ 104.2.

Nice to see one crack into the 13's. They usually run around 14's at 100 MPH on the strip via some magazine tests. The 2011's had lots of bugs and the 2013 models with said early throttle, etc. issues resolved and if equipped with the Sport Auto Transmission (which also gives it a Sport + Mode very beneficial to aggressive launches) should be able to get into 13's easier and more consistently. I'm very happy with the acceleration of mine considering it's coming from a super heavy Luxury Sedan that feels like a Tank trekking down the road. The V6 Camaro's I've driven definitely feel less quick and definitely lack the low end torque of the N55, but an SS should have no issues posting a better 1/4 all day long than a 535i indeed.
