Is it OCD to remove the wheels to clean them?
I bought my car with 10,000 miles. It was well cared for and had the usual inch thick tire crap on it from the dealer or previous owner. Behind the wheels and wheel wells seem about average for a one year old car. Is pulling each wheel to thoroughly clean and detail the backsides and wheel wells overkill? It's not a daily driver. Any opinions or recommendations on products, methods or tools would be greatly appreciated. I had to clean each tire 4-6 times with goo gone just to get the thick layer of tire shine slop they put on it.

Yes, that is a little OCD, if you do that every time, at least for a DD.
But you said it's not a DD, so maybe more of a show piece, then it just means that you really love your 'Maro

It was really to settle a bet with my wife. The car is a garage queen that will eventually be modified and drag raced a few times a year so one good cleaning in there will last for a very long time.

OCD, but who cares. Its your car, and your time, so if you want to do it, go for it.
In terms of washing, when I had chrome wheels, I do a nice powerwash, then take a microfiber cloth to it, and then a polishing compound. Now I have black plastidip on my wheels, so I can just wipe it off with a damp cloth, or peel and reapply if its really dirty. |

Yes its OCD, but most of us here on the forum have some form of "Obsessive Camaro Disorder" so I wouldn't worry about it.

my question is when will you put the car on a lift or jack stands so you can wash the undercarriage? then you will be OCD if my drive way wasn't in a steep incline I probably be there right with you... LOL

Funny you said that about the undercarriage. When my headers are going on in a few weeks at my friends shop I have my undercarriage detailing materials to go along with me. I will spend the better part of the day cleaning and detailing the undercarriage while he's breaking his ass installing the headers lolol.

I've done it a few times... but yeah, I'm OCD about clean. It's a never ending battle of brake dust though.

I pull and detail the wheels when I polish and wax the car every 3-4 months. Just part of a complete detail IMO.

I do it to clean and detail the suspension and fender liners as much as to clean the backs of the wheels. If you're gonna detail, might as well detail everything. If you've never removed them before you'll be amazed how much dirt you can never get to unless the wheels are off. It also gives you a chance to detail and wipe out the backs of the wheels and tires while they're off. I also make a point to stick my hands between the spokes with a towel and some detail spray to wipe out the dust from my liners and wheels (while on the car of course)every time I get home, if not sooner. Doesn't take that much effort to keep 'em clean if you do it often. I hate dusty wheels and dirty inner fenders!
