AAC Footwell Lighting- Help please!

I have the footwell lighting on the way but I have never wired anything like this before, just mechanical parts. I want to wire them to the switch that comes with the kit not the dome light or the ambient lighting(as I don't have it) and I haven't seen a complete DIY for this. I saw the one from AAC where they plugged into the fuse box on the side of the dash but they didn't really explain what they plugged in there and how they did it. They also didn't show how to wire the switch up. To say I am a wiring noob is an understatement!!! Please help?!?!

The best way to do it is wire into the grey wire under the dash, run the power leads to the LEDs and ground them, then they go on and off with the dome lights.

There is a post about it already. Do a search.

Yeah, I saw it, but I don't want to do it that way. I want to have a switch set up just for them so I can turn them on and off whenever I want. I'd like to have them on without the dome light.

Yep, Stephens beat me to the diagram. What you want to do is find a always hot fuse. Hold on, I need to ruffle through some files (while I know that you're not actually waiting I am looking for it mid-post).

There you go. First fuse on the list.

Right so.....
From the light....+ to the ACC, - to a ground
From the fuse...+ to the power on the switch

I don't need to run a ground from the fuse box though right? Can't I just run a ground from the switch to the same spot I grounded out the lights?

Crap....then the question is what do I plug the + wire into, in order to plug them into the fuse box?

Yes. you need to get a fuse tap from auto zone (or another store or something) So this is the path of the circuit OK: you go from the fuse tap -> LED (+) -> the LEDs -> LED (-) -> ground.

Then you also need to ground the LED switch itself, this will let the little light in the switch light up.

Gah! Now I'm confused. I thought it went fuse tap, to switch....Led's to switch....ground to switch? LOL

The order doesn't matter, as long as you complete the circuit. I just gave you the way that I usually wire everything.

I wired my LEDS with one power lead, and each LED has its own ground. But mine are on with the dome light, but they dim out with the dome too.

I had first tied into my dome light, and then I also tied into a switch as well. Use the diagram above for your switch, and use this to get your 12v power...

Using female terminals, and a fuse, make this, and there is a spot already available for you to plug right into! Run this to your switch, and boom, you have power.

This is where you tap into.

This is how the fuse looks. 2 female terminals attached to the fuse, 3rd female plugs into the fuse box.

I noticed you didn't wanna do this in your OP, but I made this thread here for connecting it to your dome, and you can also use a switch at the same time. Good luck with your instal!

Ok, going to try this tonight. Two questions:

How do I attach the wires to this type of switch without soldering them?

Did you just a regualr old drill bit to drill the hole for the switch?.....this part makes me nervous!!!
