I always enjoy when people thank veterans for their service (I did it today to a USMC Captain I met on the street) and I appreciate it when people thank me (though I only wore the uniform for 4 years but supported the Army and Marine Corps for another 27 as a DoD civilian). Anyway, there is nothing wrong with thanking all vets on Memorial Day but technically, just to clarify.... Memorial Day is "a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces". Veteran's Day (November 11) is "the day which honors people who have served in the United States Armed Forces".
There is certainly nothing wrong with honoring or thanking a veteran on any day and please do not be offended but, Memorial Day is intended exclusively for the millions who gave all for this great country.
