Steering Wheel - Whine/Squeeking noise - Fixed

Took my 2012 Camaro SS into the dealership for a whining/Squeeking noise that happens when turning the steering wheel at a stop or at very low speeds. They found the issue to be with the steering gears and replaced it. The noise is no longer there and the steering does feel a bit firmer.

Hope this helps since I've seen some posts complaining about the same issue.

Hmm, this is good to know. My '12 SS is doing the same whining while turning at low speed. I always hear it while parking. I assumed it was a rubber cover at the back of the wheel rubbing or something.

Hmm, I hear the same thing. Thought it was something I did when I undid it to install my headers.

Got it too. Based on another post, its just the electric steering. Yours may have been extra loud.

I thought the same thing as well until it got worse with the summer heat in TX. Also started hearing a Squeeking noise when I move the shearing wheel left to right at a stop.

Only models that have electric steering are the ZL1's and starting with MY14 they will all have it is my understanding. Anything prior it is hydraulic, we have replaced a few hydraulic racks due to this issue.

My 2013 SS has electronic steering.

Okay, so they did install it on the MY13's, I was checking for some clarification. The 14's don't pull up in SI yet. I thought maybe it was installed on the 13's, but it goes by the RPO code. Bottom line is that the only racks having the issue are the hydraulic ones. Thanks for clarifying!

Do you know why it's happening by chance?
