The springs are fairly straight forward to install. There is no bumpstop trimming and the springs ending ".001" go in the front. Springs ending in ".002" go in the rear. Make sure the logos and numbers are upright when installing.

You don't "need" a compressor, but it makes it a lot easier.

Most lowering springs do not need a compressor to install them because they have a shorter free height than the OE springs they are replacing. That being said, you still have to get the OE springs off the strut (and shock). Both the front and rear come out as an assembly which is nice because the work can be done on a workbench unlike older cars where you pop a ball joint loose and the spring takes your head off.
The safest way is to use a spring compressor to disassemble the assemblies. They are usually only a few $ to rent and really only cost around $20-$30 to buy. Can they be done without a compressor? Probably, if you are careful. You just have to understand that when you un-thread that nut, the spring is going to pop off with some authority. It's also not good for the last few threads on the shock/strut shaft doing it that way but YES, it can be done.... |

We are trained professionals. Do NOT do this at home.
In our Aussie Pedders Suspension shops we rarely use a spring compressor. You do have to know you vehicles before using this technique. It will work on a Zeta or ZETA II but would not work on a GMT900 (Large SUV or Truck). Firmly plant your size 12 work boot on the strut just below the spring perch. Take your rattle gun (air impact) with a deep well socket and buzz off the retaining nut. The assembly will pop apart. I love doing this when training at a new Pedders shop because they always expect something exciting to happen. When you are taught the right technique it is a non-event. Using the same technique on a GMT900 would result is serious damage or bodily injury. Using a spring compressor to disassemble the OE unit is the safest and best way. Do NOT use my technique at home. You may hurt yourself, some one else or cause property damage. If you happen to be around at a Pedders Day and can watch and learn while we do a car what you do when you go home is up to you. We are trained professionals. Do NOT do this at home. |
