No drilling needed. Use a lot of towels because the brake fluid will DESTROY your paint!! Towels everywhere!!! A big plastic automotive syringe(the one with the tube is best)is a MUST, buy it at walmart or any auto parts.

I hate to sound stupid (doesn't everyone), but what harm does the dirty fluid cause? I am thinking the answer is hard on seals, o-rings, and the like. I have not made this modification (nor any mods for that matter), but I am curious.

From what i understand,clean fluid prevents the clutch from sticking.

OK, now I am confused! If it is clutch dust that makes the fluid dirty, as was claimed by one member a few posts up, and the problem is that dirty fluid causes the clutch to stick, then how does separating the clutch and brake reservoirs help the clutch not stick? I can see swapping it out as you say you do, but why do the mod? Again, I apologize if I am missing something, I just do not like to spend money without knowing the real benefit.

Im not the reservoir of knowledge that some here are all i know is the clutch sticking,as well all that dust in the brake lines isn't good.I imagine if you separate and never change the fluid then it does no good at all,other then keeping your brake lines clean.

How exactly does the dust get into the fluid?
If there was a pathway for the dust to get in, that same pathway would let fluid out, especially if it was under pressure.

The clutch hydraulic system is sealed. It has to be, otherwise it wouldn't work. Every time you stepped on the clutch pedal, the fluid would just piss out.

I have 8k on mine with hard, urban driving and it still looks like fresh fluid.

I am also struggling with the mod theory since I honestly can't see how the fluid gets contaminated.

I dont see how that can be,i mean after every tank my fluid is dark bronze.Please take a pic so we can see.

I just went out and took a pic.This is mine after only probably 50 miles,and easy driving.I changed right after i got done with my track day at Fontana.

I have this mod, but have not installed it yet. Not sure how clutch dust can get in the fluid. Discoloration from heat over time maybe? I bought this mod because if you hot lap your LS3 at the drag strip you can experience the clutch sticking to the floor. Some have claimed this mod will resolve that problem.

I did experience this a couple of times in my '11 SS. But not yet on the 1LE, even though last night I must have made 20 runs. My 1LE has only has 2,000 miles on it, my '11 SS had 24,000 including a very lengthy track day. So it could be that this effect happens as the fluid ages under heavy use. So if this mod makes is easier to change the clutch fluid then it is worth while. Of course heavy use of the brakes would add the same requirement for the brake fluid.

I think if you do not track your 1LE at all, the mod may be just for peace of mind. If you do, at least it makes changing the clutch fluid easier and might give you a little more life out of your brake fluid.

This mod belongs with the Ported TB, the TB Wedge, and the fuse pull. Cheap mods that might do some good, but can't hurt.
