2013 CAMARO ZL1 ?

I live in a small town in Texas. I went to the Chevrolet dealership yesterday to inquire about the ZL1 and see if there was a list of people who wish to order. I was advised by several salesmen that there won't be a 2012 ZL1. They said they will not see a ZL1 until after June 2012 so it's actually a 2013 Camaro coming out a little bit early. Is this area-specific or these guys don't have a clue?

That's comical coming from a dealer in Texas, which is the strongest and largest Camaro market in the country!

Best regards,

Elie

If you want reliable information, I'd definately get in contact with one of our Community's Sponsors or just keep your eyes glued here While dealers will get all the new information first, in my experience, most salesmen don't know their tailpipe from a PCV valve. The ones that frequent here are not included in that generalization. The statements they make and share are at least as accurate as many of our members here.

Although the salesmen can be wrong, it doesnt mean for sure that it is the case this time. There was for sure going to be a 2012 Dodge Viper... not happening. Got bumped to 2013. There was also going to be a Jeep SRT-8 this year... not happening either. Both models got bumped to 2013. So dont think that the ZL1 is a for sure thing until they start building them.

It's coming...GM has invested a lot of time and money to bring this car out, If they miss the chance to bring this out for orders in 4Q of 2011 then they'll have a lot of people questioning the integerity of the company, I would find it hard to think that don't want to do that.

Just remember, most dealerships are not getting as much info as you think about the car. GM is being pretty tight lipped about things right now. I went to mine, and they find out more info from me rather than their GM reps.

GM is going to ride the Camaro wave for as long as they can, and this car is only going to make it bigger and longer for them.

HTP, you were just reassured by some of the most well informed people on the planet about ZL1, not counting the actual GM engineers and head office people that also post here.

ZL1 begins production on January 1st, 2012.

For other reliable info, see our stickies as to what has been officially announced.

BTW, and we should send to educate him.

I am not saying it isnt going to happen. But as with anything there can be delays... just as with the Viper and the Jeep SRT-8.

I'm not saying that dealer's statement is accurate, however let's look at some facts.

A new hot and in-demand model coming to dealerships showrooms in the second month of 2012. Many companies are already selling 2012 MY. So the ZL1 2012 MY is coming out to showroom so close to 2013 MY, that you might as well consider ZL1s sitting in dealer's lot would be as 2013 MY and not 2012 MY. Because of most of the 2012 MY are already spoken for.

Just my two cents!

No 2012 Jeep SRT8? Then what is this: http://www.jeep.com/en/srt8/.

and I could have sworn I read about half a dozen reviews on it just a little while ago.

The Viper ... I thought they had been saying it would be back in the 2012 calender year not the 2012 model year. I may have been mistaken and it really was planned for 2012 MY, but thats what I remember.

Onto the ZL1.

GM has been parading the car on the autoshow circuit for 6 months or so now, telling everyone that it will be here 1st quarter 2012. That indicates to me that they have confidence that there won't be any significant delays from this point forward. We have seen it in testing (known then as the Z28) for over a year now, and there were thought to be prototypes rolling around as early as 2008. At this point, they're dotting the i's and crossing the t's. I don't see them finding anything that could set the program back by several months.

I don't know why people listen to dealers. The dealers on this site know more than any random one you will meet. The rest don't know shit, want to sound like they know shit and just want your money.

Its very possible that the ZL1 will be released as a 2013 instead of 2012, regardless of whether production starts in Jan or Mar or June. Its also possible that some snag will delay start of production a while, but I'd wager that your dealer (or any dealer) has no inside knowledge on this.

Salesmen never seem to have reliable info, but they're usually full of unfounded rumors...
