**Questions about (MAP) for F/I tuners, manufacturers and others in the know**

I was reading GM High-Tech Performance magazine. One of the articles discussed a test of seven CAI kits for the Fifth Gen Camaro SS. The article briefly explained one of the testing criteria: "MAP" or Manifold Absolute Pressure.

The article stated that MAP "is the actual amount of pressure in the intake manifold, measured in KPa." The article goes on to say that for their testing, "100 KPa roughly represents normal atmospheric conditions and shows that the engine is consuming air without any restriction." Further, "numbers higher than 100 represent extra air that is being forced into the intake by a 'ram-air' effect, while lower numbers show a slight vacuum in the intake manifold."

With that said, each of the CAI kits tested in the article hovered around 100 KPa's, depending on the RPM.

My questions are, for forced induction applications, is their an ideal MAP amount, measured in KPa's like there was in the CAI test in the article that I mentioned above?

Do MAP measurements vary based on pounds of boost, RPMs (when you're talking F/I), types of forced induction (e.g., centris, pds, turbos)?

Do you ever see numbers lower than 100 KPa on F/I applications, and if so does that only occur when there is little-to-no boost, such as when a BOV is open on a supercharger?

How important are MAP measurements in the scheme of things? The reason I ask this question is because, some of the CAI kits tested in the above referenced article were seemingly making more horsepower than the stock Camaro SS air intake unit, even when their MAP measurement fell below 100 KPa.

I apologize if I have confused some of the concepts in this thread. I'm still very much a beginner and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Come on, guys, take me to school, please.
