So according to some of you if gm does make a Z28. Due to the new 2011 mustang leaked numbers. It would be taking the current SS slapping better suspention on it and some Z28 lables? Then again taking the current SS and drop a LS7 in it and call it a SS?

I would say that COPOs were a different breed, though, since they weren't readily available to anyone, to the best of my understanding. Weren't all of the COPOs modified by dealers, such as Yenko?

No! COPOs (Central Office Production Order) were a corporate order. You could actually get Pontiac paint or other GM related performance parts on a Camaro special ordered.

I think Z28 is special because it's always been a Camaro only trim package. The SS package was always available on all of Chevrolet's muscle cars- Chevelles, Novas, Camaros, Trailblazers, Impalas, Cobalts (?)....so it gives the Z28 special meaning for Camaro's. If GM would have offered Z28 Nova's or Z28 Cobalts, it wouldn't be special. Thats my take.

Well, I guess I stand corrected. However, maybe I should have better qualified my statement by saying that they weren't "mass"-produced like the SS and Z28 models.

Chevrolets Super Sport Package was designated by RPO Z/27

COPO or Central Office Production Order was basically a back door fleet car ordering program for those who were "in the know" which is much like how police cars are ordered today.

Camaros could be ordered under COPO code 9561 or 9560. The cast Iron L-72 427 motors were ordered under 9561 and the All Aluminum ZL-1 (Holy Grail of all Camaros w/ only 69 ever being built) was ordered under COPO 9560.

The COPO Code 9737 was just a "Sports car conversion Package" and a few Camaros ended up with a combo of these packages and were considered "Double Copos"
