Premium for my SS only. To fill up a tank, premium only costs about $4 more than regular. Considering this, why wouldn't you fill up with premium?

A pig? Please..... these cars if driven without playing around does NOT guzzle gas. You want to talk pigs? Try diesels! Try Epeditions! Tahoes! Suburbans! SUVs! THOSE are the real hogs. Sure if you hammer down on them theyre going to drink gas like you have a hole in the tank. But heres a question, go to track and find out how much it costs for alcoholed fuel racing per gallon, nitrous running engines, ect. $1.50 is NOT going to kill you otherwise you shouldnt have bought this car and shouldve gone with a chevy Aveo or Volt! $40,000 for a vehicle is not something the average american can afford. It was made to "accomidate" the salaries of middle class ppl but doesnt mean someone with a $35000 salary should buy this car! (Not saying you have a $35000 salary) You wanted the car, now you got it and conmplaining cause you cant afford it? You shouldve thought about this BEFORE you bought it! Ppl dont think about inflation when they buy vehicles. They tend to say check my car out! But then money starts getting tighter and theyre like boy am I a dumbass or what? i bought something Icant afford. Thats my .02

Slightly off topic, but how long should I wait to do the fuse pull? Should I run a few tanks of 93 through first? I don't know for sure if I'm on the low octane table, but I'm sure the dealer was springing for 93 the whole time. A sales guy said it's ok to run 89. So, figure I'd better do the pull at some point just to make sure.

I probably make a trip to the gas station once every week or two. Four bucks extra is not a huge deal if I know my car will run in tip top shape. Heck, I used to run 93 in my V6.

I don't care enough to "hate" on the V6. My preference was the SS, so I bought it, twice... And I was referring to the "max performance" of the OP's car. An SS stuck on the lower fuel table because of 87 octane fuel has around the performance of a V6, hence my comment. He could have saved a s**t ton of money, spent less on gas, and had about the same power if he'd have just bought a V6 to begin with. Cutting corners to save a couple of bucks always costs more in the long run.

Putting 87 in your SS instead of 93 isn't costing you 100 hp. And last time i checked, a non RS 1SS isn't far off the price of a 2LT RS. But i get what you're trying to say.

So what is the max amount of horses cut from using lower than 91octane?

(I plan to use 93 btw, but op you have your answer. Yes you can run 87 in it.)

You are only saving a few bucks anyways, just go with premium.

Id go with premium. Its not too much of a difference in the overall fuel cost. I can get either 12 MPG or 22 MPG depending on how I drive the car. Heh, I assure you I was not thinking fuel efficiency when looking to buy this car.

2 1/2 years i have run the 87 octane in my car, and have had 2 members but on the readers to look for knock there is non, yes its only $.32 per gallon more but i fill 2-3 times a week and more if i am going out of town, OP do what you want, it will run as long as any other car out there on 87 octane. IMO

Ofer, you are the exception. You drive so much that you would be spending hundreds more a month if you used premium lol

My Camaro doesn't "ping or knock" using the lower octane, So, my question is, is the higher octane really necessary?
You bought a high performance vehicle, use high octane fuel. If this was an issue, you should have gotten a V6. I highly recommend you do the fuse pull too, once you have completely purged your SS of the sub-standard fuel by running at least two full tanks of the good stuff of course. When you do, you will feel a MAJOR difference in performance! Dont feed your children junk food for dinner, and they will do better in school!
