Watkins Glen 2:10:33 Lap....Even if Your Not a Road Course Guy, You've Got to See

Just loaded this video from October 2014 at Watkins Glen, Track Masters Group.

Driving my 2013 highly modified 1LE to my best lap time yet at 2:10:33. Still have some work to do to get faster but wanted to post so during this very cold winter we could enjoy watching what these cars are really made to do.

I forgot but is there different configurations for Watkins Glen?

Yes, this is the "Long Course" different then what NASCAR uses. You add about 1 mile to the course through the "toe" and " heel"of the boot. A full 11 turns.

What gears do you have in that beast? You are carrying 4th through turn one/esses and then into 5th @ ~115 and the car pulls 30 mph+ in 5th!!! When I get to 138 in 4th and shift to 5th, before the bus stop it is done. Nice laps!

I have the same sort of question as tw789 did - with the possible exceptions of the first half of an out lap, following the checker, or possibly during a wet session with forced induction I just cannot imagine choosing to be in 4th down below 60 mph anywhere on any track when 3rd is going to be good for nearly 100. Unfortunately, it isn't possible for me to tell what the engine is being asked to do here.

I'm afraid that I can't get any sense of rhythm or driving intensity when the audio track is anything other than the engine and perhaps the tires. Doesn't matter if the music would be my top favorite of the moment otherwise or something I never want to hear even once in my life, it's just way too distracting.

Ok fellow track fans, the music is being deleted later today. I had a young co-worker load the video on You Tube and I guess I was trying to be "Cool" but it didn't work. The next sound you will hear is music by all our favorite LS7 (yes, the engine is an LME built race engine bored and stroked).

To answer some questions above:
- I am running stock gears and transmission. The only thing added to the rear end is a custom diff cooler.
- Added a Mantec clutch to harness the 655 rwhp.
- Yes, I shift to 4th between turn 1 and 2. Carry 4th through the SS's then shift to 5th at the top of turn 4. One of the improvements I need to make is accelerate through the SS's. Currently I only maintain speed through turn 2 and 3. I should be gaining speed but only hold.
- I down shift to 3rd through the toe (turn 7), the boot (turn 8). Carry 3rd through 9. Shift to 4th between 9 & 10 and carry to the straight where I shift to 5th. You cannot carry such high rpm's with the larger engine.

I am driving on my 3rd engine! Gernaded the stock engine only after 8 laps due to oil starvation. Blew the 2nd LME race engine after 1 full day, again due to oil starvation. Installed my 3rd engine but installed a custom dry sump oil system. Had more issues with the fan belt coming off but got that taken care of with a pulley re-alignment and the use of a Kevlar belt.

The video is the last day of track season and did not want to sit all winter without getting my Spring goal of turning a 2:10.

Ouch. Did anyone pony up (GM or LME) with regards to the first two engines? The 1LE is a track-focused car. I would be incredibly pissed if GM built a car that could pull enough lateral G's to oil-starve the motor and then didn't step up the plate when that motor oil-starved.

Same question for LME?

I can't wait to watch and listen to this from my Canton towers, I hope your presentation delivers and yes stroker engines low end torque ROCKS!

Can you please elaborate as to why you suffered from oil starvation twice already?!! What did GM have to say on the original oem setup that blew?

New (no music) video is up. Turn up your speakers and listen to it roar!!!

Also, watch the G meter on the lower right. 1.4g's in some corners. This is exactly why the LS3 died....no oil in the pan. Talk to any semi pro or pro driver, here is the inside scoop, "The LS3 is good to 1.3g's sustained, anything more, oil starvation will occure". One last thing, talk to Corvette guys with LS3's who really push their cars on the track (i mean really drive them in an open track environment) and ask how many engines they have been through.

I could'nt ask for anything from GM for I had modified the car so much it would never be covered. The Cost of Fun!
