Twin Turbos and Snow (FI owners step in)
I read some posts about the rear mounted twin turbos and its dealing with the snow. Unfortunately, they were all theories. I understand the air filter is high up and the turbos are cast so it wont rust.
However, snow and slush goes everywhere. Especially salt crust. I can't imagine that turbo still being cool with big chunks of slush falling off of it in the garage. For the Twin Turbo owners, if you driven it in the snow, how was it? I imagine the # of owners who ever did this is in the sing digits. I'm really curious. Thanks, |

hmmm well STi's and Evos are turboed I believe and they have capabilities to drive in snow conditions, so I assume if you mimic a proper setup you will be fine (with a light foot of course since we're RWD). Skip to about 8 min into..

You leave them at home if rear mounted.. Maybe 6 inches of ground clearance to turbo

Even the finest salt water mist will damage a turbo impeller on a diesel boats turbo . Big kicker once that filter is saturated in salt and slush. You would be amazed what passes through a kn style filter in the rain. I have a open element filter on my Harley bagger. Removal after a rainy trip and there is a significant layer if dirt/film in my carb and intake.
