Correct tire pressure

Hello Team,

New to the forum! At any rate I noticed that when I picked up my car that the wheel pressure was different for the front of tha car and the back (front-38psi, back-36psi). Now I do have the RS package so I am aware that the front wheels/tires are smaller in the front than the back (20x8 vs 20x9). The sticker on the inside of the doorjamb says the pressure should be 36psi for all 4 tires.

I'm inclined to go with the sticker pressure for the tires, but wanted to know if anyone noticed the same pressure differences when they got their car. Just curious.

Cheers,

Heelhook

You can't go wrong sticking with the sticker. 36 all around is correct.

Welcome Heelhook

First thing you may want to do is follow the procedure on page 9-60 of the Owner's Manual and have your Driver Information Center (Dic) "learn" the pressure of all four tires. Then you want to also check them with a good gauge, preferably one that goes up to 60 psi.

Once you have an accurate reading of the current pressure in each tire, you want to get them to 36 psi when it's cold, not after you've been driving around for a while! You may know all this already, but I didn't when I first got the car.

Welcome again!

P.S. Another thing that some of us have done is to replace the regular compressed air with nitrogen. That eliminates some of the wide variation in tire pressure due to temperature changes.

At first I thought 36 seemed to be to much, but I guess it must be because of the 20 inch wheels.

Wow nitrogen!? I've never heard of that. Where do you pump that? Not at any 7-11 around here for sure.

Ultimately you should inflate the tire as per the tire manufacture. There should be a max pressure rating on the side wall of the tire.

I was just at Goodyear Tire today and they were offering $5 per tire for nitrogen. Anyone out there do it? Does it mess up the Tire pressure system?

You may be correct, but my information differs.
I've checked with the tire folk for both my car and my motorcycle, and both have said to me that the correct pressure is that which the vehicle manufacturer says is the right spec for the car, truck or MC.

These are my $.02, have a great day.

I'd just like to add that the handsome, intelligent, and sexy Doc has stated that the manual is being cautious with the number and that 38 will give you a smoother ride & more mileage.

Costco have Nitrogen air pumps, many tire places do not recommend Nitro tho as it drys out the tire from the inside out, can cause premature cracking and deterioration of the rubber in a place where you wont see it happening.

Well that doesn't sound good. And the only benefit being air pressure fluctuation is reduced?
