ZL1 vs. Z28?

I have a 2011 SS. I have been drooling over the ZL1. Not that I need one, I am 72 years old and occasionally do SCCA Solo, or laps at a couple of semi local tracks.
However, I got lucky, (or smart) on a couple of investments and have some spare change. I was determined I would get a ZL1, then started reading reviews of the Z28. It sounds to me like the ZL1 is the right choice but the Z28 sounds so sweet. Any opinions/thoughts?

I would be all over the Z28 if not for the refresh. If you can deal with that, go for the Z28.

Were any of your investments stocks? Say Groupon, Tesla, Intrexon, or Pricline which you sold yesterday for a massive profit

I would go for the Z/28, the ZL1 is "overblown", ha. Plus Eaton products are suspect to defects, which makes the supercharger.

z/28 should only be for diehard track fanatics. I'd much prefer a ZL1 for everyday or leisure drives. one speaker, no A/C is a bit too hardcore for me lol

Z28 no question. The only downsides over a zl1 is it will be much more expensive and even more difficult to find one to buy IMO.

From everything I've seen and read, the Z/28 is serious car built for the track that can be driven on the street. If the sole purpose for your new Camaro is for track use, I would suggest the Z/28. However, if the Camaro will also be used for everyday street driving I would opt for the ZL1.

ZL1 convertible. You live in west L.A. Enjoy year round top down driving with all the bells and whistles.

A/C is a factory option and adding speakers hasn't been a problem since the late 60's when FM radio came out.

427's rule, wish they were offered in the SS. Sorry, but a ZL1 for $24k more, with that stupid "gas guzzler tax", forget about it. I know the tax is the Feds, not GM, but even worse. Think about it, with the gas mileage the ZL1 gets, it is paying a guzzler tax, on every gallon it gets....

I agree with you on this one. I purchased my SS convertible fully loaded for $24k less than the ZL1 convertible I also test drove the same day. Gas guzzler tax, 6mpg less, etc. I love the 7 liter, but, I would not own a coupe over a convertible. I think the Z/28 will be too one dimensional. I like all the extras. That's why I would take the ZL1 convertible over the Z/28 if I wanted to spend the extra money on a Camaro.
Fogey, if you do get a new Z/28 or ZL1 come to our "cars in coffee" in La Canada and take a fast cruise with us up Angeles Crest. Good luck on your decision.

Thanks SS Panther, I didn't realize the Z/28 won't be available as a "vert". I don't think I would have bought my car if not being a vert. To be honest, reason I bought the 2012 was because the ZL1 wasn't available in "vert" until 2013, and I didn't want to talked into it, code for me talking myself into it, ha.

Now the 2014 Stingray...

I agree with BRMike. I love my ZL1, so I might be a little bias in my choice
