Why is the Z/28 Tested in Germany?

So do the Germans have a monopoly on performance car testing? It seems to me that America has plenty of hilly and curvy terrain on which our performance cars could be tested; California, Tennessee, Kentucky, etc.

Most everything about European society sucks, particularly their big government oppression of the individual, yet we continue to allow them to influence us in many ways. Look no further than the expansion of the federal government over the past 4 years and the additional $5 trillion dollars in debt they've created.

Anyway, it's time for American car companies to do more development of their cars here in the states.

Because Germany has the Nurburgring. We have the Lutz Ring. Which is almost as good but not quite.

It's VERY simple... Germany has no speed limits on the Autobaun. You can and people DO drive as fast as their car will go. That makes for a great real world high speed hiway test bed. Something that just can't be done here in the USA. Germany may have invented the Gestapo, but it took the US to perfect it and apply it to our highways.

Best wishes, and lots of love from Europe Some of us like to enjoy aspects of other cultures. We are only who we are by accident of birth.

It's all about Nurbergring. Compare Z28 times to other supercars to gauge it's performance.

If all of the established greats—Lamborghini, Ferrari, and all the others—test their cars in the same place, then those who want to be seen on their level have to play their game on their court with their rules and win. The CTS-V and ZR1 also have the obligation of competing on this track. It levels the playing field by having a designated place to compete. If you compete in the same place as the big players, then you are on their level. The Z28 competes there to be great.

Not available yet.

Short answer to the OP's question - from an older post:
Quote:
Nurburgring lap times have become the gold standard by which modern day performance cars are measured and compared. The famed “Green Hell” features technical elements of all sorts and is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous, and most demanding purpose-built racing circuits in the world. It has therefore become a test track for auto manufacturers, and its demanding layout had been traditionally used as a proving ground.
