Hey R...

From years of towing, if there seems to be a little more tongue weight than your truck likes - we put Air Lift bags in all our tow vehicles. They are relatively cheap and you can adjust them to the load. Leave them at minimum psi when the truck is driving around town and then add the proper psi to keep the hitch height equal to what it was before you attach the trailer. This help A LOT in stopping power. You know the old thing (for the vehicle part) 80% of vehicle stopping is the front brakes. If you unload the weight from them in the rain, they lose a lot of their capacity and steering. Anyway no biggie just something to consider.

I was talking to Glen at Planet Pickup and he mentioned the high density closed cell foam deals that act like a soft early bump stop...

I revisit these options and go with the best ideas of people that know...

I was talking to several of the guys out here that tow stuff all the time... There were several recommendations and this was one of them... airbags was another... and getting a smaller trailer or a bigger truck was also mentioned...

Trailer, I'm settled and it's partly paid for, and being built... Truck, it's already WAY more than I intended to buy when I went shopping for a beater... It's rated for 11200 lbs towing capacity so I'll address what I need to make it safe and carry on... I figure the trailer, tools and the Camaro will weigh in close to 8000... and hoping for a bit less... there was some guessing going on about the weight of the trailer amoungst the several vendors I talked with... 2490 to 3000 on the trailer weight..with the box...and the trailer is 28 feet long...

Thanks for the Input... It's beena number of years since Ive hauled anything on a regular basis... and a lot of that was in a tractor trailer... though I did quite a bit when I was managing the ranch as well...

I have a 3/4 ton, but this works for any open trailer & truck:

Electric brakes are the greatest if it's in your budget!

With your unladen pickup, measure the rear bumper static ride height. Then with your fat @$$ standing on the bumper, measure it again. That should give you a general idea how much 250 lb tongue weight will look on your truck.

With the trailer hooked up and fully loaded, move the car forward or back till your static bumper height is about where it was (or a bit lower) when you stood on the bumper.
