2014 Winter Olympics Vancouver?

Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently Russia cant afford them and theyre not even halfway done on buildings for the events, some havent even been started? The rules of the Olympics state that if the upcoming city cant provide its returned to the previous host city. Anyone know anymore on this?

Soooo..... maybe that means that we'll be able to pay off some of the debt the 2010 games caused? That would be good Unless they have to fly in snow again

I heard right after the games that Russia was a disaster....they had camera crews in Soshi at the same time the Olympics were here and they had NO snow....like NOTHING....Remember....we ONLY had snow problems at Cypress.....Whistler had no problems.

Our Olympics I think cost $6b (maybe 8).....they have spent $8b in just building a tunnel ...estimating total cost at $40b.

I think the committee made a very poor decision. Hosting the Olympics a second time would be VERY cool BUT......it will not be the same.....can you imagine the work it takes to organize? Who would pay? It would end up being a shadow of the real experience / event.

I don't wish the Russians ill BUT....I'd be happy to support us doing it again.

Ricker.... Instructions on how to answer your question "who will pay": Stand up from computer, walk to bathroom, turn on light, look in mirror. Now imagine ever other tax paying Canadian citizen standing beside/behind you. Now you know who will pay.

The only good thing about hosting them again (and yes it wouldn't be the same) would be that the money has already been invested in the infrastructure. So at least the facilities, athelete's village, infrastructure etc. is already built. Now ticket sales and the delta on tax revenues would contribute to the sunk cost. And one would "think" that hosting it a 2nd time they should already know how to organize it so could do so more efficiently? Oh wait.... I forgot... this is Canada. So our government would probably rebuild facilities that are less than 2 years old and completely screw up the organizing so some how, it ends up costing more than the first time

Well one good thing if true is that the housing for the athletes is still mostly unsold... and the empty damn expensive condos are costing quite a lot to the city.

It's a buyers market over here, I think with rate hikes and the VERY unpopular HST crap turned many away from house hunting... well that and a million dollars would only get you a nice house... nothing great in many areas.
