mid size sedans

wife is gonna need a car later this year and starting to research. looking at mid size affordable sedans and some of the crossovers in the 18-24 grand area. with the sedans, liking the honda accord, mazda 6, ford fusion, hyundai sonata, and the kia optima. the chevy cruise and the nissan sentra also looking at as the smaller sedans or coup. with the crossovers, mazda c5, subaru forester, chevy equinox, ford escape, and kia sportage. just wanted to get some advice and suggestions on those and other cars or crossovers recommended...thx..

That's a pretty big consideration set.

I haven't driven the Mazda 6 or the Fusion or Forrester. But I'd give a positive on the Subaru as a friend owns one and loves it. Plus I think it's made in the US.

Don't like the new Malibu?

The new Escpape is selling really well so might be tough to get a good deal.

So what is most important? What are you looking for specfically? Just good solid and in that price range?

Equinox is probably the roomiest in the bunch with for/aft adjustable rear seats. But the 4 cylinder is only adequate for propulsion, but good for FE.

Sonata and Optima are basically the same car, just different styling inside and out so that's just a preference.

Honda is getting great reviews right now. Won most comparisons.

But you have the Sentra and not the Altima??? Altima is really nice as well. Not far behind the Accord.

The one closest to a car/SUV hybrid is probably the Subaru with the C5 not far behind.

From personal experience:

My 2011 Ford Fusion is horribly boring. Plus, bad breaks. Perhaps the newer models are better?

My wife recently bought a Kia SXL. This car is surprisingly fun to drive. And this particular trim is really quite nice inside.

hey guys...thx for the advice. kinda forgot about starting this thread. well we test drove the fusion and the escape from ford and she like liked both, but felt like the escape was a little to small. the fusion is on the list for sure. at chevy, drove the equinox and the cruze. cruze is on the list now. the equinox drove well, but we have decided we do want a car now. and at honda, she love the accord and its also on the list. that accord sport is very nice but a little out of the price range. still gotta get by hyundai, mazda and kia. kinda fun car shopping.

I'd stay away from Hyundai. They drive well at first, but they wear quickly.

Why not consider a Subaru Legacy?

Ford Fusion yes

Malibu no (emergency redesign)

Accord yes

Impala will be too expensive and probably too big

been doin some online shopping and will check out the subaru legacy. really like that look of the new mazda 6 and going to check it out too. thinking its down to the accord, fusion, cruze, mazda6, legacy, sonata, optima and will also check out the camry...know its a big list, but still got plenty of time to shop for we plan to get something around september. so give me the good and bad with this list. thx

Ford Fusion. 2013 is an awesome car for the $$. Driven one and rode in the back and my only criticism is the back seat and rear seat leg room isn't as large as the 2010-2012 Fusion's. My son's 2010 Fusion SE has been flawless for 34K miles. 2.5L 4cyl, 6 speed auto. He just got 35mpg on a trip to Cincinnati and back with 4 adults and luggage on board pulling the hills in Tn and Ky. .

Specs on rear leg room are 38.3" for 2013 Fusion and 37.1" for the 2012 Fusion.

In fact, the 2013 Fusion is larger than the 2013 Taurus in most interior specs.

My wife has the 2012 Ford Fusion. It's a great car. We've got about 6k miles on it. The only issues have been the sunroof had a tear starting on it that was replaced under warranty and the RF tire had a slow leak. Also repaired under warranty. My wife loves it. It's a nice quiet cruiser that handles the bumps nicely.

ok, have done some more test driving and researching since last post. plan on buying sometime early next year so plenty of time to make a decision. kinda leaning to these cars as of now. kia optima ex...chevy malibu 1lt...mazda6 sport...honda accord sport...subaru legacy 2.5i premium...volkswagen passat 2.5l se...ford fusion se...also liking the smaller models of the chevy cruze 2lt eco and the ford focus titanium....ok, suggestions and recommendations welcomed...thx

Chevy Malibu is in that range and a little nicer than the Cruze as far as room. There's also the Impala, but that's just out of the price range you were looking at.

Depends on if you're looking for room, good drivability or other options/comfort items. A base Malibu might be better as far as interior & trunk room if that's a consideration.
