Camaro "body in white" road legal?

GM has a kit so you can build ur own camaro by buying the frame and other body componets for $7,000. But I was wondering would you even be able to drive it on the street? Considering they dont provide a VIN.

Much appreciated.

If it's like building a kit car for the street, there will be some kind of VIN# or serial# on the frame. My wife works for MVD in AZ so in AZ yes you can build it & drive it on the street. What AZ MVD does is assigned a VIN# based off the frame number after it has passed inspection being street legal. Allot of states do the same thing. Just check with your local motor vehicle department.

FYI - Many states require EO numbers and/or smog legal to be registered.

The kit car I built got a vin issued by the state so I don't know why you couldn't register it like that, like he said AZ does.

Good point as well. If it was registered in Yavapai county AZ, smog not required. As said all you have to do is check with your local motor vehicle department for street legal requirements. Hope this helps.

In Colorado you're allowed to build your own cars and as long as they pass inspection they can be street legal. Here they even let you pick your own VIN.
