One of my greatest fears almost happened yesterday..

I pulled into the gas station to go to the atm.. I parked my SS M6 on the side.. it was on a slight incline.. I go inside to get cash i turn around to come out and i see what i THOUGHT was another Camaro at the end of the driveway almost jutting into the street . I then looked quickly as to where I was parked and found out it was my car that had rolled back!!!!!!! Luckily there was a gully in the parking lot and the car kinda rolled down and stopped or else it would have rolled backwards right into traffic..

I learned my lesson.. Never trust JUST the parking brake.. always put it in gear when you turn the car off!!!

That is the purpose of the parking brake and that should not have happened. If you think there is a problem take your car in and have it looked at. Glad nothing worse happened.

I have to agree here. If the brake was applied properly it would not have rolled that far or at all. If you did have it fully applied, you have something wrong with it. Get it checked out.

Yeah same. It can be easy to not pull it back all the way when you're in a hurry, etc. Just make it a habit

I pull my E-brake up to the point my wife cant get it down sometimes but our driveway is on a incline an I worry its going to roll away but I also leave it in 1st gear too. Glad yours got away with it safely.

I'm thinking it would be habit to always leave it in a gear not the opposite...

Besides parking in gear, quit using gas station atm's. They charge a convenience fee.

Haha! I know that feeling EXACTLY! My story goes like this...

I drove up to the DMV in my new 4x4 Nissan Truck (used) to get my new plates. Park... go inside... 5 minutes later someone comes inside and yells "there's a red truck in the ditch outside".

I about sh*t myself when I looked & saw my truck had done a complete 180 and went nose first into the ditch outside the DMV.

Luckily it was a 4x4 so I got to test that out for the first time, and exited the DMV ditch with little hassle... but never again did i trust the parking break! And the next day when the embarrassment wore off I went back to the DMV and got my plates.

This has happened to me as well. And I know for a fact my parking brake was engaged. I heard a loud boom and then saw my car rolling back...the parking brake failed.

Sorta the same thing happened to my buddy. He has a 98 viper gts and parked it to run inside cvs, came out and couldn't find his car.. initially he thought omg someone stole my car! Turns out the parking brake didn't engage and it rolled out of the parking lot and across the street and came to rest in a grass lot. It was amazing nothing was damaged.

Ever since then I always leave it in first gear when I get out of the car.

Me thinks your car saw a mustang go buy and couldn't wait for you any longer to go after it......
