I use amsoil 0w-30 signature series about every 5000-8000kms and have probably over 50-60 passes in my car if not more... i drive it hard, did first oil change at 1500kms and car has about 14000kms now. I've only burnt maybe 1L total though out that time? I also run Sunoco 94 up here in Canada which i believe is 10% ethanol contained, i do see soot no matter what gas on tail pipes though.

I think I'm going to switch to Brad Penn 10w-30 next year when i pull it out, that stuff is amazing and has cured so many problems with a lot of cars i work on. Amsoil is definitely my top pick of all synthetics from RP, Mobil 1 etc but Brad Penn is where its at, especially for older motors which require that zinc additive, only oil around that provides it and works great.

Mine was built in March of 2011 so I'm hoping I am in the clear here, because this thread scares the hell out of me and makes me glad I haven't modded my car.

Sorry, but if you are going to be scared by this, then you may as well trade your Camaro in becasue there is no way you'll be able to enjoy it!! There is absolutely no pattern here so far. 1 was at 9K (DarkneSS), 1 I have serious speculations about (xpanda305x) as he questioned issues with his clutch (I just think there is more to his story) and 2 (SIXJAX & Blade) seem be close in incidents.

I will continue to drive my car the way it was meant to be driven, and will have no fear doing it.

I agree, drive it like you stole it. If it breaks, get it fixed. The builds look similar, but sometimes people have bad breaks that are simply flukes. With my car, it's modded, but if it breaks, it will be fixed, because it has been shown to be a factory issue, not anything to do with my mods.

Yea but it's a pain in the ass when it happens 550 miles away from where you live.

Yea the thing is if the check oil light did it's job I am pretty sure none of these problems would occur.

I also have a difficult time believing the maintenance minder actually calculates oil life based on driving habits like the manual says. I bet the whole programming behind the Oil Life System is flawed.

I've said it before has anyone ever seen the oil can idoit lite stay on or the "Engine Oil Low-Add Oil" Message that's supposed to warn you that you have a low oil level?

I know a few who were 3 qts low and never saw it.

did some poking around... seems there are some Traverses and CTS owners complaining about excessive oil usage and spun bearings...

I'm thinking it's NOT a low oil level idiot light... I'm thinking it's a low oil pressure light...
