ZL1 vs Z/28

Im dying to see a stock ZL1 drag a stock Z28. Anybody else want to see this? any bets on the winner? who do you think would win?

It should be a good race judging by their power:weight ratio I'd give the Z/28 the edge here

I'm thinking the zl1 might be the winner, the extra 80hp might be enough to counter the weight savings, although the z/28 may launch better due to the grippy new pirellis! Either way can't wait!!

I would think the ZL1 would have the edge, not by much! But I wouldn't bet on it! And I'm a betting man! Lols!

Never been in the ZL-1 Forums, but I got one request...Been grazing over in the Z/28 forums and couldn't help but notice a lack of input from too many ZL1 guys...

....Especially from any one who truly tracks their car...The ZL-1 is sort of taking a beating over there and nothing but crickets so to speak from the ZL1 camp...

....Just thought I'd throw it out there if anybody's interested...

The HP difference might put the ZL1 on top. What are the gear differences between the Z28 and ZL1. Does the Z28 have higher gears?

I am certain with the high torque as early in the powerband along with the horsepower that the Zl1 produce it will be the winner, providing that the tires are equal and especially if the ZL1 is an auto. I just witness two weekends ago a 518 rwhp SS Camaro (manual) racing a 501 rwhp ZL1 (Auto). The ZL1 won all three races in a 1/4 mile race by at least two car lenghts every run. That first gear is a killer in the auto ZL1 and its shifts to second before reaching the 60 foot and keeps pulling. The weight of the Z28 will be only slightly less than the SS and the Z28 will not be anywhere near 518 rwhp. Also where the weight is on the ZL1 will help it hook better off the line, the heavy rear end, axles, and battery is all putting weight on the rear tires.

Z28 should have better power delivery and traction over the suercharged ZL1 so the extra HP doesn't always mean faster

ZL1....and it won't be that close. Torque...torque...torque. Here is the key with weight and straight line racing...once the weight is moving it is far less of a factor. The torque will get it moving and the HP will keep it moving. On a road course, weight is huge because more weight is harder on the breaks, adds more body lean, and then it has to get going again coming out of corners. In the 1/4 mile...not such a big deal. Think about how big all those Mopars of the late 60's were yet they turned very quick 1/4 miles times compared to smaller cars with better weight to HP ratio. The torque of the hemi motor was more than enough to compensate. The Z/28 is going to be an amazing car. But make no mistake, it is purpose built for road course application.

Totally agree about the late Mopar muscle cars. A 1970 Plymouth with a slightly modified 383 beat my buddies 1967 camaro SS with a modified motor (Cam, headers intake, headers, duel coil distributor ext. ext.) motor and 410 gears two out of three times in the 1/4. The mopar was always out of the hole first..good memories those days were at the Seattle International Raceway

The Z/28 will be a great car and I think most ZL1 owners know that but it's ok because it's the new top track dog. Chevy built it that way and it's suppose to be the better track car. It's going to be more expensive but for the other 99% of the time you're not on the track, the ZL1 is better. Heck, I might even get one just for fun and I just bought my ZL1.

Also the average ZL1 owner is probably older and wiser than the average camaro owner so they will likely not waste their time getting into petty arguments. So for most, the Z/28 is great but so is the ZL1.

BINGO!! I am nearing 50 and while I won't say I am wiser than anyone else, I will say I don't care to argue about much.
