Angry "Low Fuel Warning" is very annoying

When my car gets down to 30 miles range left, i get the "low fuel warning" on the DIC. The problem is that I can no longer get my remaining range. I think this warning comes on way too soon, or at least they can leave the range counter going.

By knowing exactly what range remains allows you make decisions like avoiding the Citgo (or not). Or buying a couple of gallons of junk gas from the no-name station (or soldiering on to the Chevron), etc.

That is my ONLY gripe about this amazing car !!!

Fill up when you get to a 1/4 tank.

Really? You're intentionally trying to cut it THAT close?

Mark is right, fill up when you get to a quarter tank if possible. This puts less strain on the fuel delivery system, particularly the fuel pump and the fuel sender unit that's located inside the gas tank.

I'm sure nowadays it's not as big of a deal, but I know it used to be the case that letting the tank get that low would introduce air into the system and would cause problems over time.

I have NEVER let a car fall below the 1/4 tank mark.

I've heard you need gas in the fuel tank to help cool the fuel pump. My dad's truck use to have a problem with the fuel pump overheating when you ran it dry (recall issue)

Yes, the fuel in the tank cools the fuel pump on the Camaro also.

The problem now is that when you get below 1/4 your fuel pump gets hotter because the fuel actually cools it. This can, over time, shorten the life of the fuel pump.

My car is getting 13 MPG. So.... if there was one gallon left in the tank, my range would be calculated at 13 miles remaining. With 30 miles remaining there would be over 3 gallons remaining. I have not known a car to 'panic' (warning, cancelling the range display, etc) with 3 gallons or more remaining in the tank. It seems a bit too cautious.

Letting a fuel injected car (most cars since about 1985) run out of fuel is not good, but I am referring to knowing how many miles I have left so I can plan my fill up. For example, I choose not to buy gas at Citgo, for example, but I will if I have to to.

You guys are missing all the fun driving with a 1/8 tank of Gas... the rear is loose and light!

What are you doing, practicing for NASCAR for some Green/White/Checker finish. Stop and put some dam fuel in it. That's like 1.5 gallons of fuel left in the tank. Not an issue if you are in town driving around, but if you are cruising out in the country, that may save your butt from walking.

If it bothers you, do this.....fill up you tank to the top, reset the trip odometer to 0, reset the gas milage marker.....then drive like normal till your LOW MILAGE indicator comes on.....get gass right then or as soon as you can. you know how big the tank is.....and you will then know how much you have left. so the next time it comes on, you will know pretty close how far you can go without having a fear of running out of gas. Typically I have 2 1/2 - 3 gallons left when its come on. I don't normally let it get that low, but its happened.

New car, so should not be a big deal, but not a good practice to let the tank get that low. Bigger chance of stuff getting through filter.

Also, you are missing chances of having people come up to you at the station and by your car. Don't let them on it!

I haven't seen the light yet........

I get 200 miles out of tank. You're suggesting I go every 150 miles. Ok, but is there anyone else out there stopping for gas every 150 miles?
