Here's the thing, insurance companies and courts are starting not to award diminished value until the car is sold and then will award the amount of diminished value at the time of the sale. Some will actually give you a time limit on saleing your car after you get it back or you're not able to file for it. For example state farm won't award it unless you sale or trade the car within 30 days of getting it back after the accident.

I have to agree, I'm underwhelmed by the factory paint both in appearance and integrity. The Hyundai I had before this had amazing paint work by comparison.

That sucks but diminished value? it's not any more diminished then it was when you drive it off the lot.

Second, just keep records and a few photos of why it was repaired. No ones going to care in 5 or 10 years or whenever you'd sell it that it was repainted because if a bunch of tiny chips. It only adversely effects the value if the car was badly damaged. A little paint work, pssht. Not worth the fight. Take the free, better paint job and forget the whole thing ever happened.

I hate when that stuff happens but just think, if it had been a sunny day, and you would have been driving a 'vert with the top down, they might be pulling glass out of the top of your head.

That's the first I have heard of this although it would not surprise me . Most insurance companys these days are cutting corners wherever they can at the expense of the customer . Some are worse than others . State Farm used to be really good but they aren't anymore . They are my carrier and I would switch but I have been with them so long . Sorry to go off topic but this struck a nerve . I am not a fan of most insurance companys . You have to fight for everything !!!!

Gosh that's horrible! Worst damage I've seen to a 45th so far! :(

Sounds like it could've been an even greater hazard, glad it was just cosmetic and didn't cause you to crash or anything!

I'm not sure I wouldn't take the insurance check and my non-repaired car to the Chevy guys to see what kind of a trade I could do on a brand new car. If you lose money, the Chevy guys will be able to document it well for your insurance company. I had a new BMW keyed one time and although the paint was repaired almost like new...the car was never the same in my mind. I traded it not long afterward. Unfortunately, after repairs your car feels....used! Just me?

Is that what is being said by right wingers now? Attacking paint jobs from the factory?
