I will bet

I bet money his driveshaft DID NOT FAIL because of going 140mph.

He has probably dropped the clutch at 6000 RPMS only about 100 times since he's owned his car.

His driveshaft was ready to fall off obviously at any moment.

And just a guess here.. But 20seconds driving like that is gonna put you at more than mile of ground covered.

I'm well aware of the dangers.

There is a great risk of anything going bad anywhere, even if you go 20MPH under speed limits.

Thanks for clarifying.

On a side note, good luck trying to get a V6 Camaro to 155. It will take quite a long time. 300 HP will only go so far.

For a 300HP car, not many places.

I've been able to get to 135 in my 05 GT (slightly restricted due to gearing and not going into 5th gear) in less than 20 seconds. My old Cobra was able to hit 145+ in barely 20-25 seconds. I haven't confirmed how long, but, 500+ HP and gaering goes a long way, but stops quickly at higher speeds due to lack of gearing, haha.

Obviously something like that can be acheived (not recommended of course) in late hours when there is little to no traffic, especially on wide open back roads, etc. Not condoning testing it or doing this, just mentioning it.
I disagree. It's due to being completely restricted to gearing. Driving my Jeep Cherokee in Germany with a 4.0 liter at 75 mph (I was giving her all she's got, Captain!) on the autobahn. Then being passed by a Ford Fiesta like I'm standing still. The Fiesta having a whopping 80hp, but geared for Autobahn speeds.

I have 4.10 gears.

5th gear is overdrive. I will not go WOT in 5th.

4th gear with 4.10's stops @ 135 @ 6200-6400.

Disagree all you'd like, I know my car very well.

5th = thrown rod with that kind of load.

LOL @ a Stock V6 camaro hitting 155. That made me LOL.

The V6 driveshaft has always been a weakness, and can't handle high speeds like that.
I don't think everyone here is laughing because the noob did it to his Mustang. We are equal opportunity haters...and we can laugh because his wallet, underwear, and car were the only things damaged. Go look up the thread of the guy who decided to drive 95 in the snow yesterday...lot's of hate for one of our own for likeminded stupidity. (search for "12 points")

The LS is the only V6 limited to 118. The LTs are limited to 155 just like the SS. Again, im not saying going that fast (130-150) is the smartest or safest thing to do but it can be done quite easily on the V6s. that are limited at 155. For the sake of not closing this thread I wont say where, but Texas has some wide open country roads with long stretches that are miles open. It is pretty easy to hit those speeds and still see a mile or 2 up the road. (Not Condoning this at all BTW, just saying)

Also, I can testify the V6 gets up to 144mph with a tune, CAI, Exhaust and headers. Not the smartest thing to do, but you only live once right?

I've hit 140 in a '01 GTP. Thats a FWD supercharged V6, rated at 240 hp/ 280 torque stock. It had a 3.2" pulley, fender wall induction, 3" downpipe with high flow cat and custom exhaust, and tuned PCM. It had more to it but I had to lay off when the steering wheel started to shake, probably because the tires were not rated for that speed. I would think a 300+hp gen 5 wouldn't have too much trouble getting to 140s or 150, probably just a tune, and especially with the RS pirellis on it. And the drivetrain I would think is more sturdy than it was on a grand prix from 10 years ago with a lot less power stock.

BTW, that was 10 years ago, I'm not as young and stupid as I was then, and wouldn't even try to get a car upto those speeds now.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/sheep/ 3 seconds to respond huh........ Although i do agree it's dangerous and that you will travel a great distance before coming to a complete stop a 3 second reaction time is a wild exaggeration
