Is it my fault??? Help!
Monday morning at school I parked my Camaro just like I would any other day. as i'm backing into a parking spot I hear a loud scrape so I pull forward and I hear another scrape and a loud pop I get out too see what happened. first thing I saw was the curb behind the parking spot is cracked and tilted upward (not my fault was like that to begin with). then I look at my rear diffuser and its a little messed up underneath which isn't too bad but then I noticed the loud pop was the sound of the clips that hold the diffuser being popped out. the part that is held on by screws on the lowest part of the sides was cracked. (pictures below)
So I went to the security department after my classes and they came out and looked at the damage. They took pictures and filed a report with the head of security. Today I went to talk to the head of security. so I go in and he was being real smug with me asking me what I was doing there even though he knew exactly what i was doing there. I explained to him that the curb was uneven and that is why my diffuser is messed up because i haven't had any problems parking at the school before. if the curb was even I wouldn't have hit anything. the guy says well I used to be a cop for 15 years and I can tell you right now that this will never go through and i'm better off just paying for it myself. I could tell he was a cop from the second I walked in because of the attitude he was giving me(no offense to any police officers on this forum). He said that for all I know your tires could have been low on air and thats why you hit the curb. I told him its a new car and it has air pressure sensors so that wouldn't be the case. He says I guarantee I could take any car right off the showroom floor and find something wrong with it that would be worthy of a ticket. He goes on and on about how its my fault and that i'm just wasting my time and his. I had gone to the service department at my dealership that day to get an estimate. The guy at the service department said I would need a new diffuser. He quoted me for the parts and labor it was $109 for the part and $150 for labor. I honestly don't think its my fault because I couldn't have seen the piece of the curb and every other car in the parking lot is also parked over the curb, most further that i was. Let me know what you guys think i should do. Thanks

You fault 100%. I cant even believe you would try to blame somebody on that. It's not like all curbs have to be regulation sized. And plus, the part of the broken curb looks to be maybe 2" higher than the rest.

bro, that totally sucks, but look at the price. you're looking at 250-275 bucks to fix it. sadly i think you should bite the bullet and just clean it up and watch where you park from now on. odds are very unlikely you're going to get any support from the school to fix it.
it is a 2SS/RS on a SCHOOL lot??? treat it like it's made of glass from now on. oh, and for revenge, just egg the hell out of the security department office at like 3am |

It's that guy

I hate to say it homie, but i don't think there is much you can do to prove that it's not your fault. Yeah it's a crappy situation but a curb imperfection like that probably should have been spotted before you attempted to park the car; aka it's user error. My heart goes out to you though, it really is a bummer.

Sorry, suck it up. Be like trying to fault someone for a rock coming out of their tire and hitting your windshield. No control over that.

You can try to fight it. Sounds like you'll get no where with security. You could ask around to see what other options you have. You'll probably have to eat it. Might be a good time to change the diffuser to a carbon fiber one or get it painted. Painted looks great

Unfortunately, you're at fault. You must be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially when parking. That's pretty much all there is to it. Sounds like you're more upset that the security guy was a d*ck, understandably. Nonetheless, lesson learned.

My diffuser fell off all by itself (come to find out it is a common problem...missing clips...not tightened down). I took it to my dealership and they put it back on under warranty.
$150 to screw a few bolts into their clips!?!?!??? |

Essentially what you said was 'No offense to cops on here but I knew he used to be a cop because he was an ass'..lol nice man..
Sorry about your car, but if you hit a fixed object that is not obstructing the roadway it will be your fault 99% of the time...the 1% is when they grow feet and run in front of your car

Why do you have to get a new diffuser? Can't you just by the clips and put it all back yourself?

Does your car make a little beepy noise when you back up close to something? It means you are too close and you should stop. Another good tip is to use your rear view mirror. You have fingertip adjustment right there, adjust the mirror down so you can see how close your rear tire is getting to the curb.It was your fault so own it instead of placing blame elsewhere. Lesson learned. Watch where you are parking because it's expensive to fix your car!

I think it's your fault. You should watch when you park especially backwards. I guess the lesson here is don't park backwards...doesn't ur car have the back up sensors?
