I believe he is referring the fact that they are both thin lenses.

I like the 12-13 because of the rear bumper.
on the 14 the plastic from the bottom goes up midway through the license plate, the other ones are mostly painted.

They are based off the 69 design, obviously will not be the same.
Can you see the resemblance between the old Camaro and the new Camaro? See the reverse light in the middle? Honestly, it cannot be any clear.

I've looked at 'em side by side in the lot, and the '14s taillights just look like every other car to me, while the earlier lights scream, CAMARO. I can tell a Camaro from its taillights at night from half a mile away. Not saying the new model is awful, but I very much prefer the pre-refresh style.

I prefer the 10-13 taillights. I understand the idea behind the '14 lights but don't like the implementation. For me the lights are the least problematic part of the new rearend. In my opinion the fact that the '14 rear bumper is flat (they removed the body line in the middle), the large license plate opening (I assume to make a standard part for both the US and EU cars.) and the how high the black lower valance rides up makes the update a miss. Also from the back you cannot tell a '14 ZL1 is a ZL1 as the car has no unique parts. It looks like an '14 SS with NPP.
People I work with that are not Camaro freaks have asked me what GM was thinking. The overall impression is the it was a miss step. To quote one person they said the update looks " more plain and less aggressive" and someone else said the '14 cars looked more "feminine". So far I have not meet one person that loves the new design better than the old one. Just my experiences.

I actually measured my 14 license plate area width and it is smaller than my parents' 13. the 13s are more angular while the 14s are boxier/ deeper, making it look wider.

Having a reverse light in the middle doesn't mean much. The wrap around design is closer to Gen 2 74 and up Camaro's. Glad people are happy with the Camaro's they have . |

Whether you like the new style or not, people cannot say that the taillights look more like the Prelude's than the 69 or 74 Camaro. Like them or hate them, they are totally Camaro.

When I first saw the new tail lights, I couldn't stand them. Mainly because they were on a base model white Camaro. This weekend, my local dealership had 3 '14s on the lot. Black, the new red color, and white. They all looked awesome.
I like the new lights as long as it's on a dark colored car.
