Ever get in trouble at work for.......

Putting your hands in your pants pocket? I didn't really get in trouble with the company but I did get a stern warning. Ya, I didn't understand either. About 2 months ago I was promoted to line supervisor and, if you're in a position like this, they was way more money along with more reponsibility. Cool, I can deal with that. The past couple months I've leanred about what to do and what not to do. Please lucy lemme splain! I went to the maintaince shop to have one of the mechanic swap out a piece of a production head to get ready for the next day. I walked around the corner where the mechanic I was looking for and the maintaince supervisor ( I've known this guy for 20 years but never worked for him directly). I had one hand in my pocket and before I could say anything the maintaince sup says "take your hand out of your pocket. Don't walk in here with your hand in your pocket!". At first I thought he was kidding so I said " don't worry that's not a gun in my hand, it my %$#&"........(dead stare). Ok, so you were serious, I thought to my self. He again told me not to walk around with my hand in my pocket and I asked a half assed "why?" In confusion. "You'll find out" is what I got back. Ok. Didn't know med could get PMS but guess I was wrong. I told the mechanic what I needed to and left. I asked another supervisor who's been here longer than me what happened and said "don't ever walk around with your hand in your pocket. He hates that!" Gess I got more to learn.

I am a maintenance manager/plant engineer and I could care less if you have your hands in your pocket. I think he was just being kind of a d!ck.

How do you walk with your hands in your pockets?

Do you have one of those G-thug limps when you walk with your hand in your pocket?

It's not that I have anything against that, but I just tried and it feels really awkward...

Seems like a weird pet peeve to have

Well, as I said, I've known the guy for 20 years and he's always been a little strung out. Now I still don't understand how a maintaince sup is above me because I don't report to him directly but I know he's been a supervisor for years. I know this and I have a lot of repect for him and looking to learn from him but, like you, I didn't undstand that peev at at. Oh and just to clear things up. I don't walk around with my hands in my pocket. I was looikng for, and found, a dollar I had for soda. I thought I left it in my shirt pocket.

Never got in trouble for it but "no hands in pockets" is part of the safety mantra at my workplace.

Sounds to me like he needs some formal training in leadership and people skills.

Hmm, hands in pockets at work suggests you aren't working and might be slacking.
I worked with someone like that, we called him "pockets" and he was always lazy.
Hands in pockets is also a sign of disrespect as shown here...

Hands in pockets is a no-no in the military.

No Hands in the Pockets
Army Regulation r670-1 states, “While in uniform, personnel will not place their hands in their pockets, except momentarily to place or retrieve objects.” (3) This rule has more to do with the look of professionalism and discipline. However, it is not unheard of for some officers to allow the soldiers to place their hands in their pockets in the event of cold weather.

We called a guy "Bay Watch."

Bosses thought it was because of his bleach blonde hair.

Really, it was because he stood in one bay and watched everybody work in the other bay.
