I changed my differential fluid last weekend and im almost at 3000 miles. WOW it was like liquid metal coming out of the drain plug!! If you opened up a can of primer grey paint it would look identical to my fluid. I have had two other friends with 2010 camaros drain theirs and it was the same. one had 1500 miles and the other had around 2500. The tip of the drain plug had so much build up of metal and grime that i touched it with my fingers and taped two fingers together and it was like i had chewing gum between my fingers!!
RECOMMEND TO ALL WHO HAVENT CHANGED THEIR FLUID NO MATTER 1200 OR 10000 MILES TO CHANGE THEIR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID!!!!

Anyone did a tranny fluid change and had any issues? Im thinking about changing mine and if anyone has any fluid come out like my diff than im going to jump on changing my tranny fluid.

Had the dealer change oil, tranny, and diff at 1800 miles. Looked at me like I was crazy, but it was worth the piece of mind. After I was done, he said it was a good idea but didn't elaborate... Hmm...

I know, I'm lazy but work trips got in the way of proper maintenance. I at least did verify they changed everything by the drips and wipe marks on everything.

Good info, thanks. What did you fill it with? Royal Purple?

Maybe they're putting some sort of break-in additive in at the factory.

Maybe I'll plan to do this at 1500 miles.

I changed both my manual trans and rear end fluid at 6200 miles. The trans fluid was real clean with just a little build up on the magnetic plug. The rear end made me wish I changed it at 500 miles because it was so dirty. You could see the flakes of metal in the fluid and both the drain and fill magnetic plugs had tons of build up. I used Redline 75w90 in the rear end with no extra friction modifier needed and Redline 75w90NS in the trans.

I changed my diff at 1080 miles and it looked just like the OP described. I put redline 75w90 back in. I have the manual trans to do but havent found the time yet to do it.

All in all good advice. I would try and hold out to at least 3k before changing the diff though. A posi diff and new gear set are going to create some metal fleck so if you will wait until they have time to fully seat you won't trash your expensive new fluid.

Ok, I just looked in the manual, and this is what is says to do (no where does it say to change the manual transmission fluid, weird!

I did my first oil change and differential change at 500 miles. I drained both through a coffee filter and holy shit! The main reason I did that was from what a lot of people say about LS engines and all the metal flakes within the first couple thousand miles. I am glad however that GM used magnetic plugs to help catch the metal flakes but unfortunatley it will all catch a small amount. I want to do the tranmission as soon as the weather breaks. I went with Royal Purple in the oil and differential, I am thinking the same for the manual transmission. Any suggestions?

I have done the engine with the stock Mobil 1 oil and M6 fluid too. The rear end is next.

The manual tranny really likes the Mobil 1 synthetic ATF I put in there. It is the multi-car formula based on Dexron 3. Trust me - it IS better than what is in there now. You will feel the difference when you shift. Nice easy improvement for maybe $7 per quart x 4 quarts = $28.

The rear end will be getting the GM fluid and additive.

Make sure when you do the tranny fluid change you use the correct type. 6cylinder uses gear oil v8 uses trans fluid. check your book measure twice, cut once.

where is the plug for the diff fluid? and what kinda fluid does gm use? if i use a different kinda fluid would it void the warrenty?

You used 75w90 in the manual transmission? Good luck with that. Not even close to a recommended tranny lube for the Tremec 6060.

Diff drain and fill plugs are on the drivers side. My Chevy dealer put in Royal Purple Gear Max. No need for any additives. Won't void warranty.
