GM will not make a camaro faster than a corvette. If the current regular vette also has 426hp then the z28 will probably be at or below that level. A current vette is around $45-$50k. so if they decide to give the z28 more power the price will reflect it.

The stories have been pretty consistent around the Z/28. The design is done, but the car won't be produced anytime soon, if at all:

The convertible seems to be getting the axe, at least temporarily, as well.

You can make your own you know. Put on a supercharger, headers, cams and so forth. I may go that route, just get a 2SS that is 2-3 years old for $15-$20k and modify it.

Wow, when were those pictures taken? I think someone said the pictures came out of a 3 year old book. They look pretty old. Looks like they are from the original design of the Camaro when, I am sure, they were just deciding what to do with the camaro (ie: LT 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS).
However I do like the hood. It would be wierd for that hhod to be on a Z28 since the SS has always been the high Performance version of the V8 and always sported the ram Air type hood. And the Z28 had the looks and style of the V6 but the power from a V8.

On all generations upto now, the Z28 was always a lesser V8 version. In the 70s the Z28 and SS alternated, one year they had the SS the next they had the Z28 and so forth, both were the High perf version of the Camaro that came with a bigger engine than the base engine. In the 93-2002 time period, it had V6 styling, making it affordable to people that could not afford an SS. The Forth generation SS had approx 30 more HP at the rear wheel horsepower and was the Cadillac version of the V8 packaged car. Also in 96 they had an LT4 version of the SS. The SS disappeared during the first 2-3 years of the 4th gen time, so only the Z28 was available. So the SS always had more power than the Z28.

There was an interview with GM (Settlemire) stating that there would be NO Z28.

Not trying to rain on anyones parade, I'm just trying to add some facts. However, if they had a Z28 version it would make it much easier to buy a performance camaro for less.

Question Something to think about!

Yes. Good point. I am not knocking down GM. I am a true Chevy guy through & through. BUT,...think about this.
Why would Chevrolet wait on announcing the Z28 return? I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by doing that. Reason; because everyone, (ok not everyone), but a good majority of people are going out and buying the SS models right now. So, by the time the Z28 does come out, (if it does at all), people will be locked into their finances with their current Camaro and would have to wait on a purchase of the Z28, (if it is being produced). That could hurt GM in my opinion.
BUT,....on the plus side for GM. People that buy their SS models now will WANT the Z28, (if it does make production), and will trade in their current SS Camaros, thus making GM LOTS of money and boosting Camaro production. Just my opinion and something to think about.

ONLY BECAUSE THEY STOPED PRODUCING THE SS FOR SO MANY YEARS ... IMO THE SS HAS ALLWAYS LOOKED MORE BADAZ THAN THE Z BUT WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THEY ARE BOTH CAMAROS ... THEY PRODUCED A SS396 IN 1967(WHICH I HAVE HA! HA! ) TO GET ONE IN THE Z WAS A SPECIAL ORDER SO TELL ME DO YOU THINK A Z WITH A 327 HAS MORE PERFORMANCE THAN A SS WITH A 396 ... PERSONALLY I THINK THE BIG HOOD SCOOP BELONGS ON THE SS AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT WITH SOMETHING LIKE AN LS9 OPTION

I hope that the Z28 will be a stripper package w/o a radio and maybe even no a/c. It needs to be basicly a street legal factory race car.

Thats EXACTLY what GM should do when they have the extra $$. I can't see the Z28 being more expensive than the CTS-V, which starts at 60k i believe. They have to price it competively to the GT500 or why bother

i don't remember who but they said they were not scared to get into vette territory. Maybe at the Cleveland auto show?
