Rear differential broke

Anyone else have a differential break? 9,415 miles on the odometer and just blew the diff on Thursday. At dealership now getting repaired. I'm being told it can take up to 2 months because the 3.91 is a special production order part. Ehuheh. They gave me a Malibu in the meantime.. Nice car but no camaro. Anyone else have this happen? If so how long did yours take to fix?

Sorry to hear that.
I hope you get your Camaro back sooner rather than later.

I think the car produces enough horse power stock to tear it's self up if one is really flogging it. but I too would like to know if it was modded.

you need this but I think it is only 3.73's.

Much stronger diff and axles.. When I bought my ZL1 I was actually going to get the 1le first then supercharge it.. Once i realized the ZL1 had the bigger diff and axles among other thing I could not pass it up with the HP and warranty..

Only mods to my 1LE are kooks lt headers and Volant intake. Hammered down in first, loud CRACK, then didn't go anywhere! Lol I thought it was an axle at first, but it ended up being the diff gear.

Out of curiosity, did you ever replace the diff fluid?

Were you just cruising around or you actually racing in the straight line because i have seen that those things are so weak from the start ( stop sign or drag strip)
thats why they are not design for straight lines

I wasn't racing, but I did launch it hard. Regardless, if they can build a differential that can handle 900lb-ft torque on a truck, they should be able to build a muscle car with a differential that can handle it's own.

At what mileage did you perform this?

I replaced my fluid at the first couple thousand on the clock, and even the mechanic was a bit wide eyed with awe, out how deteriated the original fluid looked, at such low mileage interval.

I'm using Redline gear fluid back there now. Hoping my fate won't be the same as yours.

3,000 miles. I was very nervous at how nasty the oil that came out looked. A TON of limited slip clutch material in the fluid. I was told it was normal after breaking in a limited slip diff, but now I'm thinking otherwise. Good luck with yours, hopefully you don't have to go through this. Lol

I think we will see more of this because I see more and more people installing drag radial on these 1LE's to get better times on the drag strip. 1LE's are not a good platforms for drag racing , like the ZL1.

Lol I think it's the wheel hop that does the damage. I still have stock wheels and tires. I did take it to the drag strip a couple weeks ago, hops like crazy.
