Allocation Explained
***NOTE*** I just called to find out if I've moved up due to cancellations. My dealership told me I was at #24 with 23 orders a head of me... ok so is this wrong? The information below is what my sales rep told me, but the inventory manager who I spoke to said it's not. Can someone explain how this really works? Do orders just cycle down with newer orders put in from the end or is it the way I wrote it?
I am really sorry for anyone who's hopes I have gotten up. Mine were up extremely high and now I feel like I got kicked in the nuts again after finding this out. Ok, I hop I got this right. I FINALLY understand how the allocation and order taking works. I made a picture diagram which I posted below. PLEASE let me know if I'm wrong. I hope I'm not.

Great job! You explained it so that a child could understand it.
Kudos to you, my friend.

thanks guys. I'm glad you appreciate the work. Sometimes the simplest thing can be so damn confusing and we have to break out a box of crayons and start drawing. I explained the whole thing to my wife and she didn't get it until I drew it hahahahah.
When I visited my dealer, he had a black 2SS sitting there and we tried to figure out if he could put me in it. It was going for 2K over sticker. I asked him, why can't it be MSRP? Someone else ordered it and can't get it at the moment. He said "It's #23 for us.... yada yada yada." A light came on in my head and it all came together for me. My concern this whole time was "Holy crap, I have 27 cars ahead of me and there's a rumor they're shutting down the plant again.. yadayadayada." I was already furious that it was taking so dang long to get accepted and that It would be next year before I would get my car... I was confused about the allotment deal the whole time. I'm so glad I figured it out b/c it felt like a huge burden of stress lifted off of my shoulders... so instead of 27 cars in front of me waiting to be accepted, I have 4, and I'm #5 heheheheh I'm #28. WOOHOOO so hopefully soon it will be accepted.

Weird considering I was given an allocation Thursday and my dealer told me that my order would be accepted this Tuesday which would mean i'd probably have a 8/31 TPW.

Everyone please read the note up top. I'm waiting on someone to clarify what I wrote. Apparently it's not 100% accurate. I'm extremely sorry to those of you who's hopes I had gotten up. I'm now back in the dumps with you guys. :(

Okay, let me add my 2 ¢ here. You're almost right. Where you went wrong is by stating that a dealer starts off with 24 allocations. They start with zero. I would have attacked it from a different angle:
-You place an order at a dealer and the dealer tells you that you're the 19th order. At this point an educated dealer would tell you that when your order moves from "Preliminary" to "Placed" in the Order Workbench system depends on allocation. Dealers are given weekly allocation (they are alloted a certain number of Camaros every week). There is no such thing as allocation slots per se. -So if you're sitting at 19 in the dealer's preliminary order list and someone cancels, you move to 18 in the preliminary list. Your order still won't move until GM grants allocation to the dealer. -As allocation is granted (so far it has been typically 1-2 per week for average volume dealers), orders move to "Placed". Where you said "They just took #8" the more accurate thing to say would be "I've gotten allocation to cover as far as number 8 on my list". Meaning you now have 9 orders ahead of yours awaiting allocation. -someone else cancels and you move up to having 8 people in front of you....etc. The bottom line is this: Your order sits in Preliminary and doesn't get to Placed (in GM terms) until the dealer is granted enough allocation to cover what is in front of you. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a dealer to say "I have 24 camaros allocated". They can forecast ahead for a month and see how many they're going to get, but thats it. Please feel free to ask questions if there's anything I haven't covered. I basically said the same thing as the OP but in the proper terms. The biggest Camaro5 issue appears to be folks learning improper terminology here (or learning to improperly use the terms) and then getting mad at the dealers when it all doesn't match up or make sense. |

So since i'm at #24 at the moment, I'm looking at waiting another 3 months at best? (2 per week?)

Broncosman which dealer did you order from. I just ordered from champion on Hwy.6 and there was no mention of any wating list for their allocation. Maybe they just dont want to tell me, but they said 3 months was the expected time of delivery
