Oh I'm well aware of that, the 5.7L should've done a better job of fending off the V6 on the big end though, just saying...

The last second or so, it sounds like the announcer says V6 Camaro.

Viper...didn't the 09's get the new vvt 5.7s?....or was it just the 09 challengers that got the upgraded 5.7?

All 09s got the VVT. Magnum never got the VVT it missed it by 1 year.

Hardly, an 06-08 Charger with the Daytona or Road an track package or 300C with the heritage package IS capable of a 13.8-14.3, without those packages, they are still low to mid 14s capable which is realistically where a Manual V6 Camaro is. Remember Magnums also outwieghed the already heaver Chargers and 300Cs by a good amount so they are the slowest of the LX cars. Now ANY 09+ Hemi LX car should have NO problem hitting high, if not mid 13s, with the updated Hemi.

Which in my books is slow for a V8 when today's V6 can get those times.

Lets look at other V8 fullsize sedans. The last gen M45 was slower ther than that, the M56 is barely quicker, and for the price of it you could get an SRT8 that would simply destroy it. The only quicker V8 Sedans these days have turbos or superchargers. Take it as what it is, put that hemi, any gen, into a car as light as your G35 and it would simply DESTROY that G35, PERIOD. Also put those V6s in sedans as large and heavy as a Charger and it would be a 15 second car. Realistically anyways the LX V8 cars are going to have an advantage on a Camaro V6 anyways because of torque. I would bet money that if that V6 Camaro was catching up, it had at least some series of modification.

Stew, that's what I was thinking as well. The V6 Camaro was not stock, if he was then the Magnum had a couple spark plug wires off. If the Camaro would've launched better/tree'd better, he would've pulled that Hemi all the way down the track and that's not how that race is supposed to go.

Here is the story:

2009 brought in the "Eagle" 5.7L Hemi that found its way into the 2009 Charger and Challenger. This engine basically only shared the displacement and block with the "old" 5.7L Hemi that was a mainstay of Mopar cars from 2003 to 2008. The "Eagle" Hemi has VVT and VCT (which is why you dont really see any cams for it, and its a bitch to tune), an extremely redesigned intake manifold and better, more free breathing heads.

Where the "old" 5.7L Hemi produced between 340 and 350 HP and 390-400 TQ, the "new" 5.7 Hemi produces a rated 370 HP in the Charger/Challenger. However, most Challenger R/T's when strapped to a dyno stock put down anywhere between 330 and 340 RWHP and 350-360 RWTQ. This is roughly right in line with the L99 Camaro.

A well driven, well maintained 2009-2011 5.7L Challenger/Charger is capable of mid-low 13's in a bone stock condition on the factory tires. With a full cat back, intake, tune and drag radials 12.7's and 12.8's are not unreasonable and have been seen.

However, what we saw here was a badly driven, stock Magnum with the old 5.7L Hemi putting down around 290 WHP and 300 WTQ on a 4200 lb curb weight and probably the 2.90 rear gears, only later did they get the 3.06 ratio. Thus all those being considered it is a very high 13/low 14 second car.

Now to those who say "OMG LOL THATS SLOW" remember that when these cars came out in late 2004 that the muscle car wars had not even restarted yet. Ford had JUST introduced the new retro body style with 300 HP and 320 (IIRC) TQ. The Camaro was dead and gone and performance was limited to the Viper and Corvette for the most part. Almost ALL reasonably priced V6's were 15 or 16 second cars except for the extremely new 350Z.

We've become mind numbingly spoiled in 2011 with new, powerful V6's that we look at older V8's (which the 2005 Magnums are now) and complain and boast about them being slow, but put them against 2004/5 vintage V6 cars and they wont be so slow.
