shifter question
Hello all, I just purchased a 2010 ss and its got a hurst short throw shifter installed. I like the hurst look and it performs beautifully but I feel it's a little notchy and clunky for everyday driving. After doing some reading I think the factory zl1 shifter is a better option for me. My question is will the hurst handle fit on the zl1 shifter? I want to keep the look that the hurst has but have a smoother more daily friendly shifter.

Sadly, no. But you could try a weighted shift knob and see if that's more to your liking..

You could look for a GM factory Hurst take-off and run that. I have one in my 2010 and it is a good compromise. You need the whole assembly.
The GM Performance Parts shifter would be good as well. |

try changing your transmission fluid instead of the shifter first.the previous owner could have put heavy weight old school oil or who knows what in there.i had good luck with redline D4.it shift's smoother than the stock stuff did.do a search on here for trans fluid and there are a lot of discussion's about it.

I agree, it is not the shifter (that was my first mod). I changed trans fluid to Driven STF & then the Ram Clutch pedal adjuster & it shifts as good as the old cars with a Muncie & a Hurst shifter. It is a lot easier & fun to drive also.

OP, I'm about to list up a 1LE/ZL1 shifter assembly -- complete with the 1LE suede knob. The only thing you would have to get for your car would be the boot. If you think you want to go that route and want to save some money over new, PM me.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will try changing the gear oil first. I also have read about the bushing issue with these earlier hurst shifters and mine definitely has the slop in it so that can't be helping right?

If yours is the factory OEM Hurst, then no, you do not have a bushing issue. If it's the aftermarket chrome handle/white ball Hurst, then possibly you have a bushing issue.

Yes it's an aftermarket chrome handle white ball shifter. Anyone have a link on where I can get the bushings? I looked at the hurst website but I couldn't find any
